Meal Plan Monday

There are various ways to cut down on how much you spend on groceries each week. One of the easiest ways is to make a  meal plan and watching for a good sale on some of the more expensive items…like meat and vegetables. Once you get in the habit of looking at the sales each week, you will start to know a good price when you see it…like turkey for $1.00/lb.  That will help form the base of a meal or two and save you money at the same time…I like it! 😉

I just made a turkey a few weeks ago, but it is so easy and will give us several meals, so I’m good with making another one. Besides turkey, No Frills also has carrots and onions on sale…so now we have what we need to round out the other meals from the turkey. See why it helps to meal plan? 🙂

Here what we’re having this week:

Roast Turkey, Mashed Potatoes, Carrots

Turkey Pot Pie

Crockpot Turkey Soup with Rice

Ham and Cheese Frittata with a Green Salad

Here’s what I bought:

Frozen Turkey- $11.98
2 lbs Carrots- $1.00
2 lbs Onions- $1.00
Roma Tomatoes- ($1.00/lb)- $1.47
2 Cucumbers- $2.00
Dole Classic Salad Blend- $1.00
1 dozen eggs- $3.37
Clubhouse Turkey Gravy- $1.00

Total Spent: $22.82

There are some items I already have at home, like potatoes, celery, frozen peas, cheese, etc. If you stock up when items are on sale, you should only need to pick up some main ingredients for each weeks meal plan. Making a meal plan and shopping the sales is the easiest way to control what you are eating, end dinner time frustration and save money. It’s a no-brainer! 😉

I also liked the idea of making a turkey dinner on the long weekend. It’s a good time to spend some time in the kitchen and have a nice meal at the end of the day. Are you making a turkey this weekend? Planning any sort of special meal on this Family/Heritage day? Leave a comment and let me know what’s on your menu this week. 🙂

For the recipe for the turkey pot pie it calls for heavy cream. Is that 35% whipping cream? Or would 18% cream work as well? Thank you.
