What’s Happening on this South Shore the Weekend (Feb 26-28, 2021)

It’s the last weekend of February and it is jam packed with things to do, see and eat! Hiking, skating, curling, live music, campfires and even take home soup, yum. Let’s take a look at what’s happening on the South Shore this weekend!

What’s Happening on Friday February 26, 2021

Feb 26 – Public Skating at the LCLC (Bridgewater)

Public skating is happening again this weekend at the LCLC. A great way to spend some time with your bubble people. Why not stop for a bite to eat at a local restaurant or cup coffee at a cafe and make a day of it?

Feb 26 – Take the Trail Punch Card Challenge (SHelburne & Barrington)

Shelburne Municipal Recreation & Parks Dept. is excited to be partnering with the Barrington Municipal Recreation Department to offer a Trails Punch Card Challenge. There are 8 sections of trail within Shelburne and Barrington that have been set up with punch card stations. Blank punch cards are available at the beginning of each section of trail or you can print them off of their website. For each section that you complete, you’ll get one entry into the prize draw for a $25 gift card to a local business/restaurant (multiple draws will take place). To find the different sections of trail check out our website. Deadline to submit your punch cards is March 22nd.

Feb 26 – Runnin on MT live at Bayport Pub (Riverport)

Feb 26 – Alex & Chett live at Boxing Rock Taproom (Shelburne)

What’s Happening on Saturday, February 27, 2021

Feb 27 – Curling Day in Canada Celebrations (Barrington)

Join the nationwide celebration of of the greatest sport in Canada, Curling! Barrington Curling Club is participating in Curling Day in Canada and you can too. This Saturday there will be curling opportunities for everyone throughout the day with Drop-in curling at 7 pm that is open to the public and is a great chance to try Canada’s most inclusive and accessible sport. Covid protocols will be in place at the club. Masks are mandatory in the lounge and recommended but not required in the ice shed.

Feb 27 – Back To Birchtown Beer Release & Launch Party (Shelburne)

Boxing Rock Beer Co. is hosting their Back to Birchtown Beer Release this Saturday from 12-2pm. This event will involve music, story telling and speeches from Change Is Brewing Co, Boxing Rock, the Black Loyalist Heritage Centre, Jessika Hepburn co-organizer of the #buyblackbirchtown Campaign, and Vanessa from SEED Shelburne. Due to COVID restrictions, we ask that you call 902-875-2282 to reserve a seat for the launch event. Priority seating will be given to residence in the Shelburne and Birchtown region. This event is in conjunction with the launch event at the the Black Loyalist Heritage Centre, which will be open from 2pm-4pm. Drop ins are welcome but all COVID-19 protocols must be followed.

Feb 27 – Log Cabin Campfire Demonstration at the MARC (Dayspring)

Sam Wentzell of Sam’s Woodland Tours, is back at the MARC this Saturday to demonstrate the Log Cabin Campfire. Join him from 1-2:30pm and see the easy, effective means to generate heat and coals to aid in cooking. Stick around for fire roasted pumpkin seeds and popcorn! This is a free activity, donations to PROKids are welcomed.

Feb 27 – Graves Island Moonlight Walk (Chester)

Luneburg County Hikers invite you to a Moonlight Walk this Saturday at Graves Island Provincial Park. Starting at 6:30pm, meet at the parking area before the causeway, You’ll walk the circumference of the park (approx. 2K), enjoying moonlit ocean views. Wide gravel trail. Weather permitting. If it’s overcast, we’ll likely cancel, keep an eye on the Facebook event for updates.

Feb 27 – Sunset & Full Moon Hikes (Clyde River)

Join Barrington Municipal Recreation along with Shelburne Municipal Recreation & Parks as they enjoy two evening Snowshoe/Hikes over similar terrain but with very different views! Join them this Saturday at River Hills Golf Course in Clyde River. The sunset hike will start at 5:15 and followed by a full moon hike at 7pm. You will walk the course if there is not enough snow but the event remains weather dependent: We are here for the beautiful sky! 🙂 Registration required; Please register for one or both hikes at online or call them at (902) 875-3544 or (902) 637-2015. *These hikes are part of the Adult Hike Series.

Feb 27 – Amanda Riley live at King Street Beer Co. (Bridgewater)

King Street Beer Co. welcomes Amanda Riley this Saturday at 8pm. Head down for a bevvie with your bubble folk and enjoy some great music to boot.

Feb 27 – Scott Colp live at the Osprey’s Nest Public House (Petite Riviere)

Osprey’s Nest Public House is pleased to welcome back Scott Colp. Head over to Petite for great food, music and check out the new, enclosed, heated patio! Music starts at 6pm.

Feb 27 – 3AM live at Bayport Pub (Riverport)

What’s Happening on Sunday, February 28, 2021

Feb 28 – Public Skating at Lunenburg Arena (Lunenburg)

Grab you bubble people and your skates and head to Lunenburg Arena for some skating. Fuel up at a local restaurant beforehand, make a night of it.

Feb 28 – Pine Grove Skating Party (Pine Grove)

Ice conditions permitting, Pine Grove Park is holding a skating party this Sunday from 1-3pm. Enjoy skating at the outdoors rink, s’mores over the campfire and take part in a special scavenger hunt for all ages. This is a free event, donations to PROKids are welcome. **Please check their Facebook page for rink closure updates due to weather.

Feb 28 – Souper Sunday in support of the Three Churches Foundation (Mahone Bay)

The Three Churches Foundation presents Souper Sundays! Enjoy Takeaway Homestyle Freezer Friendly Soups in Convenient 1-Litre size for just $12. This weeks soup is Beef Barley. All pick up at Trinity United Church between 10am-1pm. Order and pay online, phone and pay by credit card – leave message and they’ll call you back (902) 521-1519 or Pre-order by email and pay when you pick-up. All soups safely made in the kitchens of Mahone Bay’s Three Churches. Covid protocols in place. All proceeds go towards the maintenance and upkeep of the churches.

Feb 28 – Invitational Jam Session at King Street Beer Co. (Bridgewater)

Live Music Lovers Welcome! This Sunday from 2-5pm, King Street Beer Company and GameChangers co-host an Invitational Jam Session. Three hours, three great guest performers.
