What’s Happening on the South Shore this Weekend (Sept 4-6, 2020)

As we welcome September on the South Shore, we are happy for the cooler air, and thankful for the warmth of the sun. We are heading into the last long weekend of summer, the last weekend before the school year starts, and there are plenty of things to do. Let’s see what’s happening on the South Shore this weekend.

What’s Happening on Friday September 4th, 2020

Sept 4 to 6 – 15th Annual LaHave Folk Festival (Farmington)

The 15th Annual Lahave Folk Festival will take place September 4th, 5th, & 6th in its new location at 1078 Farmington Road, Farmington. In the beautiful rolling hills of Lunenburg county. Loads of great music, breath taking scenery, great food vendors, hand washing stations. Bring your tent and lawn chairs. Tickets at the door or you can buy online through the Facebook Event. $25.00 per day and $45.00 for concert and camping. Loads of room for social distancing. Hope you can make it.

Sept 4 – Lobster Take Out Dinner (Petite Riviere)

Petite Riviere Wesley United Church is holding a Lobster Take Out Supper this Friday. Enjoy 1 1/2 lb lobster, salads, rolls and dessert for just $30. Pick Up is between 4-6pm. Reservations are recommended, please call Miriam at (902)688-2866 or Dave at (902) 688-1396.

Sept 4 – Ben Caplan at Petite Riviere Vineyards (Petite Riviere)

Join Petite Riviere Vineyard this Friday from 7-9pm as they welcome Ben Caplan back to play. Ben Caplan is a songwriter, singer, and performer based in Halifax, NS. He is currently getting back to his roots by playing solo shows around the Maritimes. Tickets: $30 – Limited Seating! Patio seating will be available closer to concert date – weather permitting.

Sept 4 – Paul Buchanan live at Saltbox (Mahone Bay)

Head to the Saltbox Brewing Company this Friday and kick off the long weekend with Paul Buchanan. Music starts at 7pm and is sure to get your weekend off to a great start.

Sept 4 – The Nice Guys at St. Mark’s Place (Middle LaHave)

The Nice Guys are excited to be back at the venue where they officially debuted, St. Marks Place. Join them this Friday from 7-9pm. St. Mark’s Place social distance seating arrangement is 34 people total. Reserved tickets will be held up until 20 minutes before show time, then will be sold on a first come first serve basis. Due to current regulations, dancing will not be permitted. Face masks are mandatory and no food or beverages will be allowed. Email stmarkstickets@outlook.com to reserve your seat.

Sept 4 – Grand Re-Opening of the New Germany Legion (New Germany)

New Germany Legion – Branch 102 Grand Re-Opening is this Friday, from 3-10pm. All are welcome, this is open to the public, you do not need to be a legion member. Keep tabs on their facebook page for details as they work on making this a fun event!

Sept 4 – Danny Banfield live at FirkenStein Brewing (Bridgewater)

The FirkinStein welcomes Danny Banfield to the stage this Friday starting at 8pm. Head down to enjoy an evening of acoustic music, a perfect way to start the weekend.

What’s Happening on the South Shore Saturday September 5th, 2020

Sept 5 – Indoor Community Yardsale (New Germany)

North River Community Hall and Bingo are excited to welcome you back to the hall this Saturday from 9-3 for an indoor yard sale. Canteen will be open! Of course we ask everyone to respect social distancing protocols and wear a mask when necessary.

Sept 5 – Shawn Hebb live at Osprey Nest Public House (Petite Riviere)

He had such a good time last weekend, Shawn Hebb is making his way back to the Osprey Nest Public House again this Saturday. Taking stage from 6-9pm, playing all your favourite rock, pop, blues and more, you will be tapping your toes and humming along.

Sept 5 – Book signing with E. Alex Pierce (Lunenburg)

Please join LaHave River Books as Alex Pierce spends the afternoon with us. She will be available for conversation and to sign copies of her newly published poetry collection: “To float, to drown, to close up, to open” this Saturday between 1-3pm. A lovely way to spend part of your weekend.

Sept 5 – Saturdays in the Park (Lunenburg)

Saturdays in the Park presented by the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Society. Saturdays through the summer, 2-3pm at the Bandstand in Lunenburg. The music continues this weekend with Kristen Martell and band. Bring your chair, some snacks and maybe a blanket and enjoy.

Sept 5 – Lawn Chair Festival (Shelburne)

The Lawn Chair Festival concludes this weekend with Dave Burbine and Traditional Country at the Guild Hall in Shelburne at 2pm. The shows will be delivered with all social distancing and mask wearing standards upheld. There is no seating on site, bring your lawn chairs, blankets, snacks and maybe a sweater?

Sept 5 – Geoff Kennedy Live at The Saltbox Brewery (Mahone Bay)

Saltbox Brewery welcomes Geoff Kennedy to the stage this Saturday. A great evening of great music and drinks. Shows starts at 7pm.

Sept 5 – Open MIC Night at FirkenStein Brewing (Bridgewater)

Grab you singing partners, get your favourite song ready and wow the crowd at Open MIC Night at the FirkenStein Brewing. Hosted by Ed Halverson, this is your chance to shine!

Sept 5 – Haunted Lunenburg Walking Tour (Lunenburg)

Looking for something a little spooky this weekend, why not Join the Haunted Lunenburg Walking Tour hosted by Lunenburg Walking Tours. There is something magical about wandering the shadowy streets and cemetery of this old town. Your guide will fill your head with colourful tales of hangings, hauntings, superstitions, and sightings. The 1.5 hr tour starts at 8pm.  Tickets must be reserved 24 hours in advance, Adult – $25  Youth (6-17) – $15 Child (0-5) – freeFamily – $75 (taxes included, $US on par) 

Sept 5 – South Shore Drive in at Gateway Campground (South Brookfield)

Join South Shore Drive In and Gateway Campground for an evening under the stars. Entrance is $15, unless making a donation to the CRFN food bank and pay $10. Concessions and washrooms are on site, and looking forward to meeting you all at the show.

Sept 6 – BernArt be AMazed (Blockhouse)

Just one more weekend to make your way to BernArt be aMAZEd. Open daily Fri-Sat, including Labour Day from 11am-4pm, a great way to get the kids outdoors one last time before school starts. We had a great day there last month, we think you will be amazed.

Sept 6 – All Levels Vinyasa Yoga (Bridgewater)

Yoga with Katherine presents an All Levels Vinyasa Yoga Class held in an outdoor setting. Moving with our breath, we will build heat in the body with sun salutations and explore classic hatha yoga postures building on throughout the summer. You must register and pay for class ahead of time to hold your spot. Classes are $10 each or you can purchase a 5 class pass for $45! Payments for classes must be sent through EMT. All students are required to bring their own mat and any other props they prefer to use. Please see full Facebook Event for all information, details and COVID safe practices

Sept 6 – Book signing with Laura Best (Lunenburg)

Please LaHave River Books us as Laura Best signs copies of her latest book: “Good Mothers Don’t.” this Sunday between 1-3pm. Shifting through time and points of view, acclaimed author Laura Best’s first novel for adults allows us to see the ripple effects of mental illness and its treatment in the mid-twentieth century. Good Mothers Don’t is a moving exploration of illness, memory, and how we fight for who we love.

Sept 6 – Hill Top Drive In Outdoor Concert (Newcombville)

David Burbine& Traditional Country invite you to come celebrate the Labour Day weekend with them and enjoy your favourite Country and 50s Rock and Roll music. The event starts at 2pm, this is an outdoor concert so please bring your lawn chairs, hats, sunscreen, etc. BBQ and beverages, 50/50 draw and more. $5 admission, all ages welcome. Rain Date : Mon Sept 7th

This is the greatest time of the year to visit your local Farmers Market. The tables are just exploding with local produce and flowers and there are always a number of local artisans and makers with their unique pieces.
