What’s Happening on the South Shore Friday Sept. 20th

Sept. 20 – Equinox Breakfast

Wile’s Lake Farm Market hosts an Autumn Equinox Breakfast this Friday from 7:30am – 9:30am. A gathering in celebration of life, the approaching harvest season and community. The goal of the breakfast is to increase awareness of the needs of our community, the work of the society to address these needs and the fundraising required to support them. This breakfast is in support of the South Shore Hospice Palliative Care Society. Tickets are $30 and are available at Wile’s Lake Farm Market.

Sept. 20 – Alzheimers Walk Where You Are

Bay Side Home is hosting the Alzheimers Walk Where You Are fundraiser. Come enjoy a yummy fundraising BBQ, browse the baskets of goodies up for grabs, and walk the Brass Hill Loop, the parking lot, or the home with the residents and staff.

Sept. 20 – Charlie A’Court in concert

Sunspots House Concerts presents award-winning singer-songwriter Charlie A’Court. Described as being planted at the crossroads of roots and soul, Charlie will bring his stripped-down acoustic show to Sunspot House Concerts but, mark our words, it will be loaded with high energy, laced with his mighty voice and fierce guitar work! Sept. 20 – Seaside A Cappella Women’s Show Chorus

St. Mark’s Place presents Seaside A Cappella, the South Shore’s All Female A Cappella Show Chorus. The “Come to the Cabaret” show will feature Seaside A Cappella and invited guest performers, award winning quartet, Tonic, HodgePodge, Mckinnon Dancers and others. It is guaranteed to be an entertaining evening full of music and dance. Tickets $20.00 at the door, bring your own wine (Corkage fee applies) Soft Drinks for sale.

Sept. 20 – Ewan Macintyre Band live at Lane’s

Lane’s Privateers is proud to host the Ewan Macintyre Band. An international music project, pushing the boundaries of contemporary folk. Featuring Montreal cellist Karine Bouchard, Moray fiddle player Peter Menzies and percussionist Alex Auldsmith with Ewan Macintyre on vocals, guitar and mandolin. Live shows are filled with rich string arrangements, ripping solos, soaring harmonies and heartfelt lyrical content. Showtime is 7:30pm and tickets are $10 from Lane’s Privateer Inn or via Eventbrite.

Sept. 21 – Splash Pad Fundraiser

Come on out and support The Pine Grove Outdoor Play Park Splash Pad Initiative! They are hosting a community yard sale, and silent auction to help raise the funds for the first Splash Pad on the South Shore! Yard Sales is taking place at 134 Dawson Heights, Lunenburg. Rain date: Sunday, September 22nd

Sept. 21 – Murray Collision Centre 7th Annual Show and Shine!

Calling all car lovers, head to Murray Collision for their annual Show and Shine. Now in it’s 7th year, this is one not to miss. Registration begins at 9am in the Murray Collision Centre Office! For more info contact Greg Seeley at 902-742-7191!

Sept. 21 – Create Your Vision for the Future Workshop

ReleaseRocks is hosting a Vision Board Creation Workshop. Oprah Winfrey says that using vision boards has changed her life. Creating an effective Vision board helps to get deep insights into your future and create the life and business that you really desire. Sept. 21 – Kent Homes Fall Open House

The Home Centre – Kent Homes Dream Builder want to welcome everyone in the community to their Fall Open House from10am-3pm. Coffee and finger foods will be served and a special prize draw as well. Take this opportunity to view model homes and ask any questions that you have in regard to manufactured housing.

Sept. 21 – Beginners Watercolour Painting Course

Have you ever wanted to learn how to use watercolours to paint a picture? Join the Debrisay Museum on Saturday, 2pm for a Beginner’s Introductory Watercolour Painting Workshop. Come and have a chance to try your hand at this style of painting with museum staff Lynette. This is a free event, donations appreciated for supplies.

Sept. 21 – The Port Jam

The Port Grocer hosts it’s annual Port Jam this Saturday! BBQ, Beer Garden and a whole lotta fantastic music to keep you dancing! $10 for adults, kids 12 and under are free. Food and Beverage tickets sold separately on site. Proceeds go toward the on-going Port Grocer renovations.

Sept. 21 – End of Summer Dance Off!

Jac’s Burgers and Shakes is hosting an End of Summer Dance Off! Can you Jive? Swing? Do the twist? Well grab your partner and hop right down to JACS to pay a $15 sign up fee to hold your spot on the dance floor! Staring at 4pm contestants be dancing till 8pm! Diners will be voting on their favourite dancers throughout dinner service, last pair standing wins! Sign up in person only at Jac’s.

Sept. 21 – Whirligig & Weathervane Festival

Shelburne Historic Waterfront is home to the Whirligig & Weathervane Festival this weekend. Celebrating 20 years, the festival was named one of Nova Scotia’s “Best Community Events”, the Festival was created to foster community pride, encourage pure creativity, encourage the development of youth engagement and encourage maximum community attendance via the popular yearly “People’s Choice Award”. It is truly a sight to be seen

Sept. 21 – Hubbards Area Lions Club Corn Boil

Head over to the Hubbards Area Lions Club this Saturday between 11:30am – 2pm and join your neighbours for a corn boil. FREE corn on the cob, hot dogs and hamburgers for sale, 50/50 draw and a cash bar. A nice way to visit and celebrate the harvest season.

Sept 21 – Trivia Night in Barrington

The Barrington Curling Club is hosting a Trivia Night. The fun starts at 7pm. $5.00 per person. Go it alone, with a partner or as a team. Fun and hilarious trivia questions, 25 cent rapid rounds and prizes to be won! Table snacks provided and the bar will be open.

Sept. 21 – Kirtan on the South Shore

Balance to Bliss Wellness with Tracy Murdoch is hosting another Kirtan on the South Shore. Kirtan, or yogic chanting, is a call-and-response form of chanting that is a type of yoga in itself. It has many of the mind-calming benefits of a yoga class or sitting meditation. By repeating mantras or words, you can release your mind from its daily chatter. This practice can have a powerful heart-opening effect as well. No chanting experience necessary! Just an open, curious heart. Chants will be provided to assist you.

What’s Happening on the South Shore Sunday Sept. 22

Sept. 22 – Touch-a-Truck 2019

Big Brothers and Big Sister of the South Shore 4th annual Touch-a-Truck is happening this Sunday. Get up close and personal with emergency and construction vehicles, cool and unique cars, and a few special and secret guests. Bouncy castles for all ages, face-painting, entertainment, 50/50 draw and a Via Rail trip. Stay tuned for this year’s participants. Tickets are only $5 or $15/family, and all proceeds go toward mentoring programs for children and youth in Lunenburg and Queens Counties. Don’t miss out on this amazing event!

Sept. 22 – How to Make a Fairy

Rural Roots Market is excited to host a How to Make a Fairy workshop. Join Jeryn Isenor as she teaches how to make a magical fairy. Take home a small or large fairy. All materials are provided. Cost $5 small fairy or $10 for a large fairy. To register please call 902-599-1207, visit their website.

Sept. 22 – Kidney Walk in Bridgewater

Kidney Walk is The Kidney Foundation of Canada’s signature nation-wide fundraising event. September is Kidney Walk month all across Atlantic Canada. Volunteers, family and caring members of great workplaces are leading the way in support of patient services, education, awareness, and kidney research through Kidney Walks. Join them on Sunday at the Shipyards Landing for our annual Kidney Walk! Registration: 1:00 pm Start: 2:00 pm. Register online in advance.

Sept. 22 – Songsmith Sessions at King Street Beer Co.

King Street Beer Co. celebrates local music this Sunday with their South Shore Songsmith Sessions. Join host Hank Middleton, writer & performer, with guest performers playing original songs & tunes. No cover and No covers. This event is rain or shine.

Sept. 22 – Fish & Chip Supper

The Chester Basin Volunteer Fire Department hosts it’s annual Fish and Chip Supper. Stop in between 4pm-6pm and dine on 1, 2 or 3 piece fish supper. Eat in or Take out, all proceeds go towards the department.
