What’s Happening on the South Shore this Weekend (Sept 11 – 12, 2020)

Just like that the kids are back to school and we seem to have a little more routine in our weekday lives. There is plenty to do this weekend to celebrate making it through this first week, either with the kids, or without 😉 Let’s see what’s happening on the South Shore this weekend.

Sept 11 – Disney Trivia at Saltbox (Mahone Bay)

Saltbox Brewing is celebrating hosting Disney Trivia Night, this Friday from 7-9pm. Do you remember the name of the prince in Sleeping Beauty? Can you sing along to every song from Aladdin? Then come on down to Saltbox and put your Disney knowledge to the test! Team size: 1-6 people Prize: Beer!

Sept 11 – Irish Sessions at Lane’s Privateer Inn (Liverpool)

Join Lane’s Privateer Inn for their Irish Sessions this Friday starting at 7:30pm. An evening of toe tapping traditional Irish music performed in the “session” format round the table. Sept 11 – Jude Pelley live at St. Mark’s Place (Middle LaHave)

St. Mark’s Place invites you to an intimate evening with Jude Pelley this Friday at 7:30pm. Jude has been a musician since the tender age of 12. His musical projects have included two-time ECMA winning bluegrass band Exit 13, medieval and early music groups Ensemble a Part, and Banquo, as well as working with Juno winner Amelia Curran as both multi-instrumentalist and producer/engineer. Tickets are $20. Seating is limited to 34 people. Face masks are mandatory and no beverages are allowed. Email stmarkstickets@outlook.com to reserve your seat.

Sept 11 – Aaron Warren live at Bayport Pub (Riverport)

Sept 11 – Classified at The Shore Club LIVE STREAM (Online)

If you didn’t get your tickets to see Classified live at the Shore Club, you can still enjoy the show online. Get your bubble together and Live Stream the full show for free. You will need to register for this event, and it is suggested you do so in advance. Click on the link and get yourself all set to enjoy the show.

Sept 11 – Broken Bridges live at FirkenStein Brewing (Bridgewater)

Crowd favourites Broken Bridges are back at the FirkenStein to help kick off your weekend. Music starts at 8pm. Social Distancing and COVID practices are in place.

Sept 12 – New Germany & Area Lions Club Yard Sale (New Germany)

The New Germany & Area Lions Club is holding an outdoor, two day Yard Sale this weekend. Head to the Pinehurst Hall Sat & Sun from 11am-2pm. Head down and search for treasures, and there will be a BBQ as well. Social Distancing will be in effect.

Sept 12 – LaHave Community Yard Sale at Fort Point (LaHave)

Fort Point Museum is hosting their 2nd Annual LaHave Community Yard Sale this Saturday from 9am – Noon. A great chance to do a little Christmas shopping (too soon?)

Sept 12 – Clothing Sale Fundraiser in support of Nova Scotia Refugee Sponsorship (Lunenburg)

Lunenburg residents are hosting an outdoor Clothing Sale Fundraiser, to support bringing a refugee family to Nova Scotia. Taking place at 71 Pelham Street both September 12th & 13th from 10am-2pm (Weather dependent) Masks Required. Clothing are donations welcome, see full facebook event for donation drop-off information. All proceeds will be donated to the official Gofundme page, leftover clothing will be donated to a local charity.

Sept 12 – Girls on Boards hosting Stand Up Paddle Board Event (Mahone Bay)

Girls on Boards is bringing their sponsored (*free) Body Positive SUP events to youth on the South Shore. This event, for girls aged 12-18, is to introduce their programs and welcome girls to come out and try paddle boarding with our leaders this Saturday at 11:30am. They are hoping to fundraise and be able to open a full Girls on Boards HUB on the South Shore in 2021. Keep checking the Facebook event for more details, and how you can help sponsor or fundraise to help bring this program to the South Shore.

Sept 12 – Ancient River Festival (Shelburne)

Osprey Arts Centre is pleased to announce the inaugural Ancient River Festival to honour the late Shelburne musician Robbie Smith. Robbie’s music touched many musicians and fans throughout the world and this festival is dedicated to Nova Scotia songwriters with an emphasis on South Shore musicians in his honour. The festival is free at the Guild Hall from Noon to 4pm this Saturday. Appearing this year are; Kathleen Glauser, Pat Melanson, Bruce Reid and Richard Snow, Kristen Martell Music and Terra Spencer

Sept 12 – Booking Signing with Nina Newington (Lunenburg)

Join LaHave River Books for an afternoon book signing with Nina Newington. Ms. Newington will be signing copies of her new novel, “Cardinal Divide”. She will be at the bookstore (on the back doorstep if the weather is good) on Saturday from 1-3pm. Hope you can stop by!

Sept 12 – Toy Ride (Mahone Bay)

Maritime Motorcycle Touring Association is hosting a Toy Ride this Saturday in Mahone Bay. The Toy Ride leaves the Three Churches Parking lot at 1:00 pm and ends at a designated drop off point. Participants are asked to bring donations of cash, school supplies and toys to be distributed by the Salvation Army to Lunenburg County families in need. Non Members are also welcome to join us

Sept 12 – Girls on Boards Pop Up Skate Event (Chester)

Girls On Boards welcomes you to POP UP Skate and come shred at the Chester Skatepark this Saturday starting at 1:30pm. All levels, ages and board types (skateboards, longboards, penny boards, etc.) welcome! This is an open skate so come meet fellow girl & women skaters from the Nova Scotia skate scene! Event is FREE for all participants. All COVID-19 guidelines will be followed

Sept 12 – Saturdays in the Park (Lunenburg)

Saturdays in the Park presented by the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Society. Saturdays throughout the summer (until it gets to chilly!) from 2-3pm at the Bandstand in Lunenburg. This week enjoy the musical stylings of Christine Campbell.

Sept 12 – South Shore Drive In * New Location Grand Opening (Liverpool)

The South Shore Drive In has a new home and they are having their Grand Opening this Saturday at the Hank Snow Community Park in Liverpool, Nova Scotia. They are celebrating with a double feature, first up is family friendly “Cars“, followed by an intermission and then the classic “Grease“! As this is a Double Feature prices is $20 per vehicle, CASH only at this time. Keep checking their Facebook Page, for any updates or additional details.

Sept 12 – The Man in Plaid at the Saltbox (Mahone Bay)

Come see The Man in Plaid this Saturday at the Saltbox Brewery in beautiful Mahone Bay. Playing your favourite Maritime and classic rock acoustic tunes, a great way to spend a Saturday night.

Sept 12 – The Colprits live at the FirkenStein (Bridgewater)

Known for their high energy and diverse catalog of songs, you won’t want to miss The Colprits this Saturday at FirkenStein Brewing. Music starts at 8pm.

Sept 13 – All Levels Vinyasa Yoga (Bridgewater)

Yoga with Katherine presents an All Levels Vinyasa Yoga Class held in an outdoor setting. Moving with our breath, we will build heat in the body with sun salutations and explore classic hatha yoga postures building on throughout the summer. You must register and pay for class ahead of time to hold your spot. Classes are $10 each or you can purchase a 5 class pass for $45! Payments for classes must be sent through EMT. Sept 13 – Felted Soap Workshop with Wile Carding Museum (Online)

Join Wile Carding Mill Museum for a Virtual Felted Soap Workshop. They will show you how to turn your bar of soap into a practical, one of a kind piece of art. The workshop will be run on their Facebook Page this Sunday starting at 9 am. All you need is a bar of soap, hot water, and old nylon sock, and wool. If you need to purchase wool, wool roving is available at the Wile Carding Museum gift shop. 

Sept 13 – Annual Fishers’ Memorial Service (Online)

The Town of Lunenburg is hosting the Annual Fishers Memorial Service virtually this year via Zoom and You Tube. The Roll of Honour for 2020 will include names of those whose lives were lost in years ending in ‘0’.The event will include video and a live feed from the waterfront, please watch from home rather than coming to the waterfront. Check back to the Facebook event as the Agenda is set, and for information on wreath drop offs and donations.

Sept 13 – Zumba® In The Park with Mindy (Bridgewater)

This week Zumba with Mindy invites you to Zumba in the Park, the annual event where the party moves outside. The dancing starts at 6pm, it’s just $5 to join in.
