What’s Happening on the South Shore this Weekend (Oct 18 – 20, 2019)

Can you believe it, halfway through October already! Mother Nature has been spoiling us with lovely weather and stunning fall colours. Have you been leaf peeping yet? There is so much happening on the South Shore this weekend, there is no excuse for you not to get out and enjoy the wonderful season that is fall. 🍂🍁

What’s Happening on the South Shore Friday Oct 18th

Oct 18 – Hallowe’en Tour for Little Spooks (Lunenburg)

Have a little one looking for some Hallowe’en fun? Lunenburg Walking Tours is hosting a Hallowe’en Tour for Little Spooks Friday between 6-7pm. Join Ashlee for an entertaining haunted tour for a younger audience. $10 per child tickets can be reserved here. Costumes encouraged!

Oct 18 – Haunted Lunenburg – Special Edition Tour

Not wanting the big kids to feel left out, Lunenburg Walking Tours is also hosting a Special Edition of their Haunted Tour. This event will begin at 8:30pm at the Heritage Bandstand. Stroll the streets of Old Town Lunenburg with host, Ashlee, and meet guides along the way to hear stories of witchcraft, hangings, hauntings and ghosts. Tickets are $26.50 for Adults and $16.50 Yout 6-17, and can be reserved here.

Oct 18 – Pink in the Rink Night (Bridgewater)

South Shore Lumberjacks Jr. A Hockey and South Shore Relay for Life are hosting Pink in the Rink. The Crushers are back to face the Lumberjacks on a very special night. South Shore Relay For Life in conjunction with pink in the rink have joined forces to bring awareness to breast cancer. Head to the LCLC, the puck drops at 7pm, keep an eye out for their mascot Daffodily who will be handing out pamphlets and collect donations that will go towards a great cause.

Oct 18 – Oktoberfest (Broad Cove)

The Broad Cove Community Association is hosting an Oktoberfest Dinner Friday from 5:30-8pm. Sausages on buns, salads, desserts $12 for Adults, $6 Kids, 5 and under are free! Cash bar and live music to help you celebrate.

Oct 18 – Ryan Cook live at Boxing Rock Brew Company (Shelburne)

This Friday catch Ryan Cook live at Boxing Rock Brewing Company Blending the nostalgia of classic country music with modern sensibility, Ryan Cook has developed a progressive sound that fuses both the traditional and the innovative. Tickets are $20.00 and available online or at the door night of the show.

Oct 18 – The Newfie Scotia Comedy Show (Liverpool)

Newfoundland and Labrador comedian Mark Harnett joins forces with Halifax comedy sensation Catherine Robertson for the Newfie Scotia Comedy Show at Hell Bay Brewing Company. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door and available on Eventbrite. Only 40 tickets available so get yours early* Price includes show only; Mature content

Oct 18 – John McGee live at Saltbox Brewery (Mahone Bay)

Head down to Saltbox Brewery to hear John McGee play some soft tunes and beautiful Ballads. Perfect way to cap off the night and kick off the weekend. Music starts at 7pm and as always No Cover.

Oct 18 – Live Comedy Show featuring Gavin Stephens (Lunenburg)

The Grand Banker is bringing the laughs Friday with Live Comedy Show featuring Gavin Stephens. Gavin Stephens is a stand-up comedian who skillfully balances playful irony and morbid silliness; he is known for his (really) quick wit and stream of consciousness comedic style. A total of four comics take the stage starting at 7:30pm. Tickets are $15 available here.

Oct 18 – Air Traffic Control CD Release Party (Lunenburg)

Lunenburg’s own Air Traffic Control are celebrating their new release “Great Escapes” and you are invited to join in. $15 purchase towards the purchase of the limited new CD at the door gets you free admittance to the party and live show inside. See event listing for all the details.

Oct 19 – Community Breakfast (Blandford)

Head to the Blandford Community Centre for a Community Breakfast to start your Saturday off right. Breakfast includes: scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon, sausage, baked beans, toast, juice, & tea/coffee. Adults $7, Youth 5-12 $3.50 and under 5 Free. 50/50 tickets will be sold also.

Oct 19 – Hot Stone Massage Course (Bridgewater)

The Salt Spa & Wellness Centre and 360 Full Circle Wellness, Denise Metzler, RMT, NHP are offering a Hot Stone Massage Course this weekend in Bridgewater. Oct 19 – Artisan Christmas Craft Market (Bridgewater)

St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church is holding an Artisan Christmas Market Saturday between 10am-3pm. Buy local and support local artists and crafters. Find unique gifts for everyone on your Christmas list. Free Admission (good will offering only). On site cafe.

Oct 19 – Pumpkin Fest (Barrington)

It’s that time of year again, time for Barrington Recreational Department‘s Pumpkin Fest. Time to dress up, bring some friends, and have fun on Sherose Island. Two days of events including Pumpkin Decorating, Pumpkin Picnic, Treat Hunt and Hallowe’en Skate.

Oct 19 – Craft and Vendor Fair (Lunenburg)

Looking to start your holiday shopping a bit early? Check out the Craft and Vendor fair at the Central United Church Hall in Lunenburg between 10am-2pm. Hosting over 20 Vendors and Crafters, there will be a canteen on site.

Oct 19 – Nova Scotia Open Brewery Day (Various Locations)

On October 19th, join breweries across Nova Scotia for Open Brewery Day as they open their doors to offer a behind the scenes look at how your beloved craft beer is made. More than 20 breweries throughout NS, including Saltbox Brewery, King Street Beer Co., FirkinStein and Boxing Rock will be welcoming you, their supporters, to this FREE event. Oct 19 – Indian Garden Farms Hayride/Corn Maze

Indian Garden Farms continues to help you enjoy fall. Again this weekend from 9-5 they’ll be offering their HAYRIDE to the pumpkin field to pick your own, or simply enjoy the hayride, cost is $5 ( kids under 5 FREE, cost of the pumpkin not incl.) Their CORN MAZE is open everyday from 9 until 5 Cost is $10 a person ( kids under 5 FREE ) Want to take part in both, they offer combined price of $12.50 ea.

Oct 19 – Harvest Jam (Chester)

Our Health Centre is hosting the 5th annual Harvest Jam this Saturday. Kid friendly events happening between 3-6pm including drum circle, crafts, face painting and BBQ. Adults are invited to head down or hang around for an evening of great music, silent auction, delicious treats and all around good times all in support of the OHC Foundation.

Oct 19 – Harvest Beer Celebration (Mahone Bay)

St. James Anglican Church in Mahone Bay invites you to a Harvest Beer Celebration. Sample some wonderful Nova Scotia craft beers between 12-5pm and then head into the Anglican Parish Hall for an Oktoberfest inspired dinner between 5-7pm. Dinner tickets are $15 for Adults, $8 Kids 12 -6, Kids 5 and under are free. Live German Music, Saltbox beer for purchase, all proceeds towards St.James steeple repairs.

Oct 19 – Fall Garden Workshop Series (Mahone Bay)

Justin and Coco are back in the garden with a fall garden workshop series to close out our time with the CHANGE Community garden in Mahone Bay. Offering the first of three workshops to learn about extending the harvest with cold frames. All workshops will be held at The Biscuit Eater Cafe and Bookstore, and are FREE//PWYC (donations greatly appreciated)

Oct 19 – Open Stable Day at Hinchinbrook Farm (Lunenburg)

Hinchinbrook Farm is opening it’s stable Saturday from 12pm-4pm. Tour the trails, ride a horse, try the zip line, fish at the pond. Activities are open where ever trained volunteers are supervising. Refreshments available. Enter to win one of four $100 Nova Fuel gift cards.

Oct 19 – Cards for our Military Troops (Bridgewater)

DesBrisay Museum invites you to come down and Make Cards for our Military Troops. Bring a group of your friends, and make as many cards as you like. The activity starts at 2pm, admission free.

Oct 19 – Mahone Bay CX Race 2019 (Mahone Bay)

Back again this year, Sweet Ride Cycling, O’Regan’s Subaru Cycling, and Saltbox Brewing Company host the Mahone Bay CX Race 2019.
The race will be located at the Mahone Bay Centre and will feature a little bit of everything including, grassy power sections, barriers, single track, sand boxes, pavement and gummi bears. See even details for race times.

Oct 19 – James Gray at Petite Riviere Vineyard

Petite Riviere Vineyards welcomes James Gray to the stage. James is a singer/songwriter from Muskoka Ontario. James writes songs about the stories and experiences of everyday life. Tickets $20 and are available at Eventbrite or by calling the winery at 902-693-3033. Doors open at 6:30pm

Oct 19 – Makayla Lynn live at Chester Playhouse Theatre (Chester)

Chester Playhouse Theatre is presents Makayla Lynn. Oct 19 – Culturally INappropriate 2.0 (Lunenburg)

Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance is pleased to welcome back three-time all-India drum champion, Grammy winner and tabla superstar Sandeep Das together with a collection of artists from around the globe for Culturally INappropriate, a world music extravaganza taking place Saturday at 8 pm. Oct 19 – Kitch’inn Party – The Jam Sessions (Mahone Bay)

Partnering with Ma Bell’s Country Condiments, the Kitch’inn is offering up Jam Sessions hosted by talented musicians showcasing other talented musicians. Oct 20 – Fall Fair Fundraiser (MARC – Dayspring)

Join Riverview Enhanced Living for their Fall Fair Fundraiser. Raising money to send their clients to Camp Brigadoon, they’ll have plenty of games, activities and food. Come have fun and meet some of the Lumberjack Hockey players who are volunteering their time to help out. Vendors etc are cash only.

Oct 20 – Shriner’s Music & Comedy Show (Bridgewater)

Join Shrine Childrens Services for an afternoon of music, laughter and connection at the Shriner’s Music & Comedy Show. Featuring Maple Creek Jug Band from Halifax, Johnny Drakes from Sackville, Comedy by Reg & Odette Tanner from Lunenburg and many more. Admission: $7.00 at door only door prizes, 50/50 Draw, Pie/Cake Auction and Canteen. All proceeds go towards Shrine Children Services.

Oct 20 – Kid’s Paint Party (Gunning Cove)

South Shore Paint Party is hosting a Hallowe’en themed Kids Paint Party. Head to the Gunning Cove Fire Hall and create an acrylic painting with step by step instructions. This is a child focused event, all ages are of course welcome. Contact South Shore Paint Party to sign up in advance.

Oct 20 – Dynamite Trail Association Annual Walk (Mahone Bay)

The Dynamite Trail Association hosts it’s annual walk. Walk the approximately 10km trail along the old CN Railway corridor. Bring a friend, the family and your leashed dog. Meet the Board of Directors, other trail users, learn some history along the way and win some fun prizes. There will be great photo opportunities of Autumn colours, lakes, rivers and possible wildlife. Wear good footwear.

Oct 20 – Inaugural Poker Walk (Shelburne)

Shelburne Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary hosts a Poker Walk. How does it work? You will walk around town to pre-determined stops where you will select a card to complete a form. Also at each stop you can purchase additional cards for $2 each to better your hand. Entry costs $5 per person, top 3 poker hands will win prizes. Rain date will be the following Sunday, October 27, 2019.

Oct 20 – Improv for Actors Workshop with Stephen Findlay (Mahone Bay)

South Shore Players Association hosts Improv for Actors Workshop. This workshop will be of interest to all aspiring actors. Teens and adults are welcome and no experience is required. “Meet and Greet” with coffee and tea at 1:30 pm. Cost is $18 ($15 for members) Pre-registration is required.

South Shore Market Tour

The South Shore is home to many wonderful farm markets hosting incredible growers and makers. We love including these in our What’s Happening on the South Shore posts! As we head into fall, the majority of these markets will be closing down for the winter, make sure to get out and visit while you still can.
