Sunday Morning Coffee

I hope you are all enjoying some family time this weekend, or at least a turkey sandwich. 😉 We will enjoy spending the next two days with our families, and also being grateful for the hard working farmers who allow us to enjoy their harvest.  Happy Thanksgiving! Care to join me in a Sunday morning coffee?

Sunday morning I usually grab a coffee and take time to catch-up on some stories I may not have had time to read throughout the week.  I thought you might enjoy them with your Sunday morning coffee as well.

In Cape Breton, a dramatic rise in international students has transformed a school and a community

Please take some time this weekend and read this story. All of it. This is what we need more of to see population growth in our province. What an incredible story of international students that are changing a university (allowing it to continue) and a community. Students, of whom many want to stay here in our province. Incredible.

Cafeteria tables buzz in half a dozen languages. The student shop stocks popular Indian and Chinese snacks. The local cinema swapped Hollywood films for Bollywood a few days a week to boost business. The entire student council is made up of international students. The men’s soccer team, a campus rallying point, has risen to the top of national rankings with a team that’s almost half international students.

Why Thanksgiving, the most unusual of holidays, is also the very best

Great story of how people new to our country view our Thanksgiving.

I remember Thanksgiving, now, as a time of warmth and fellow-feeling, of huge portions of extraordinarily rich and succulent foods. But it had less power than Christmas, had less monumental a hold on the imagination; that made it, in a way, freer, looser and more purely enjoyable. That’s how I think about it still.
