What’s Happening on the South Shore this Weekend (Oct 16-18, 2020)

The South Shore is determined to get you outside this weekend and enjoy some nice weather while it lasts. Guided walks on the Dynamite Trail, discover River Ridge Common, Dog Dates at the beach and vineyards and Open Stable Day at Hinchinbrook Farm. There is no shortage of indoor activities either, turnip carving (yes, turnip), Art presentations, knitting groups and of course live music. Oct 16 – Clickity Clack Knitting Group (Bridgewater)

Calling all knitters and crocheters, experienced or learning. You are invited to Clickty-Clack Knitting Group this Friday from 10am-12pm at the DesBrisay Museum. Instruction for beginners and socialization for the more experienced knitters. Some supplies are available and lots of patterns for beginners. Join them for a relaxing morning of knitting/crocheting and chatting.

Oct 16 – Country Christmas & Vintage Decor Sale (Stanley Section)

Crafters in Stanley Section are holding a Country Christmas & Vintage Decor Sale this weekend. Visit them at 3847 Lower Branch Road from 10am-4pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You are asked to bring a mask and follow Provincial guidelines.

Oct 16 – Fibre Art Exhibit at Chester Art Centre (Chester)

The Chester Art Centre presents four incredible textile artists for their Fibre Art Exhibition, opening this weekend and running until Oct 28th. Photos on a grid struggle to capture the depth and detail in textiles created by hand, stitch by stitch, fibre by fibre.House of Wooly Time. Pop in and see these wonderful pieces of art up close and maybe even get a chance to talk to one of the artists.

Oct 16 – Ludwig at the LAMP (Lunenburg)

Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance invites you to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Beethoven with a special concert series. This Friday enjoy Pianist Pierre-Andre Doucet performs Variation, Opus 76 in D Major, and guest violinist Katya Poplyansky. Attendance will be capped at 50 with attendees seated in bubbles of one-to-four persons. Oct 17 – Mahone Bay Museum Online Silent Auction Fundraiser

The Mahone Bay Founders Society has decided to switch their annual Granny’s Attic Yard Sale to an Online Silent Auction format this year to raise funds for the Mahone Bay Museum. This online version will include gently used items donated to our yard sale and new items that were donated by local businesses. Bidding goes Saturday from10am to 6pm. Items will be posted for viewing and bidding in a Facebook album. Good Luck!

Oct 17 – A Tale on Two Wheels (Bridgewater)

The Town of Bridgewater Recreation Department in partnership with DesBrisay Museum and Gale Force Theatre are delighted to present: A Tale on Two Wheels! A whimsical performance made for children ages 2-6 that’s delivered by tandem bicycle! There will be two performances this Saturday 11am and 2pm in Woodland Gardens behind the museum. Performances are 35 minutes in length. Please bring blanket or chair to sit on. Everyone is welcome but please keep in mind that we do need to follow COVID-19 restrictions and limitations while in an outdoor setting Social/physical distancing will be required. There is no cost to attend this event. Rain Date: October 24th

Oct 17 – Canines & Wines at Petite Riviere Vineyards (Petite Riviere)

Petite Riviere Vineyards invites you to bring your fur babies for Canines & Wines this Saturday 12-5pm. Photographer Karleigh DeRuyte will be doing doggie portraits! Photos will be $20 with half the proceeds going directly to Elderdog Canada Inc. (Photos will be take on a first-come, first-served basis.) Oct 17 – Saturdays in the Park (Lunenburg)

Saturdays in the Park presented by the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Society. Join them Saturdays 2-3pm at the Bandstand in Lunenburg, while the weather behaves. This week enjoy the music of The Gilberts.

Oct 17 – Longsword for Beginners (LaHave)

Medieval Swordplay Canada invites you to Longsword for Beginners, this Saturday at 3pm. Come out and learn how to use and train with a medieval longsword. Oct 17 – Beginner Single Sword/Irish Stick (LaHave)

Medieval Swordplay Canada invites you to Beginner Single Sword/Irish Stick lessons. Come out and experience the Irish style of fighting using a Shillelagh and “single stick”. Oct 17 – Discover River Ridge Common Park (Pinehurst)

Have you heard about the newest park in the MODL, River Ridge Common? Join the District of Lunenburg Recreation as they explore the natural playground and accessible trails throughout this beautiful, 115-acre property this Saturday from 12-4pm. Join Foxfire Band for a night of songs in the Gallery at the Kitch’inn, Main Street, Mahone Bay! It’s a small venue, so with safe distancing we can only have a small in-person audience. Accomplished musicians on their own, together, with their duelling guitars, strong vocal harmonies and collaborative songwriting, the two create an incredible experience you won’t forget. Oct 17 – Benefit Concert for West Dublin Hall featuring Alex Hickey (West Dublin)

Join Alex Hickey this Saturday for a special hour long acoustic benefit concert, with proceeds going to the West Dublin Hall. Oct 18 – All Levels Vinyasa Yoga (Bridgewater)

Yoga with Katherine  presents an All Levels Vinyasa Yoga Class held in an outdoor setting. Moving with our breath, we will build heat in the body with sun salutations and explore classic hatha yoga postures. You must register and pay for class ahead of time to hold your spot. Classes are $10 each or you can purchase a 5 class pass for $45! Payments for classes must be sent through EMT. Oct 18 – Open Stable & Fundraiser at Hinchinbrook Farm (Blockhouse)

Hinchinbrook Farm invites you to their Open Stable & Fundraiser this Sunday from 12-4p, rain or shine. Come learn what Hinchinbrook Farm offers families with special needs kids, and special programs. Meet the therapy cats, dogs and horses. Go down the zip line, do a little fishing in the pond, try out the trampoline and swings and explore the trails. This is a free event, though donations are greatly appreciated. COVID protocols are at gate and throughout, Social distancing, hand sanitizing, at every location, masks required if closer than a pool noodle length to others. (except family members).

Oct 18 – Rover Cove “Big Kids Social” (Shelburne)

Got a furry social butterfly who loves to make new friends? Join Rover Cove for their Big Kids Social on Sunday from 12-1pm. Your dog will get to socialize with other dogs in a safe, clean space, with our certified trainer and staff helping to provide positive, controlled interactions that will help develop good social manners.• No registration required – just show up with your dog! Oct 18 – Rover Cove “Puppy Social” (Shelburne)

Calling all puppies… It’s time to make some friends! Join Rover Cove for their Puppy Social on Sunday from 2-3pm. Your puppy will learn to socialize with other puppies in a safe, clean space, with their certified trainer and staff helping to provide positive, controlled interactions that will develop into good social manners in the future. Oct 18 – Fall Fun Day at Chester Arts Centre (Chester)

The Chester Art Centre, in partnership with Ross Farm Museum, invites the family to Fall Fun Day this Sunday from 12-2pm. Pet lambs, carve a jack-o-lantern the old fashioned way using a turnip, watch a spinning demonstration and celebrate the sand sculpture. Free for all ages.

Oct 18 – “The Fabric of Life” with Jill Mattinson (Chester)

The Chester Art Centre presents The Fabric of Life with Jill Mattinson, this Sunday at 3pm. A part of the Donald Curley Art Series, Come see images and hear stories of Jill’s 21 years slipcovering Chester’s finest. Seating is limited to 25, masks will be warn throughout. Oct 18 – Dynamite Trail Association Annual Walk (Mahone Bay)

Its the Dynamite Trail Association Annual Walk this Sunday at 2pm. Enjoy the scenery and learn some local history. Meet the directors of the association. This is a guided walk along the old Canadian National Railway Line. Meet at the Welcome St. Parking lot at 2:00pm. Bring your family and friends within your bubble. Dogs welcome. Social distancing will apply. This is a 10 km walk so wear comfortable shoes. “Peak colour” often coincides with our annual walk, plus the occasional wildlife sighting, so don’t forget your camera!
