Mar 6 – Opening Reception Horse of Sable Island Exhibit (Liverpool)

ADJA Studio and Gallery invites you to the Opening Reception of the “Horses of Sable Island Exhibit” this Friday from 7-9pm. Celebrate Photographer Linda Hall’s stunning work. Ms. Hall is an avid photographer and horse enthusiast and was recently able to combine her two passions during a trip to Sable Island. Linda’s focus was on the horses, capturing quiet moments as the horses wandered the dunes grazing and preparing for the coming winter. The results are incredible and should not be missed. The exhibit runs until March 27th.

Mar 6 – Mind’s Eye Art Exhibition (Lunenburg)

The Lunenburg Art Society opens its 2020 season with the Junior and Senior High School students’ art exhibition, titled “Mind’s Eye”. It will feature the art of over 200 students from seven schools in the Regional Centre for Education. Everyone is invited to visit the exhibit in the Lunenburg Art Gallery, Wednesdays to Sundays, March 5 – 22, between 12 and 5 pm.

Mar 6 – TGI Fun Night Curling (Liverpool)

Have you always wanted to give curling a try? Here is your chance! The Liverpool Curling Club invites one and all to their TGI Fun Night Social, this Friday starting at 7pm. A casual opportunity to hang out with your friends and try curling, a $10 drop in fee applies. If throwing rocks is not your thing, come as a spectator, enjoy cold drinks board games and more.

Mar 6 – Atay & JAX Live (Lunenburg)

Kick off the weekend with Atay & Jax live at the Lunenburg Legion this Friday from 8-10pm. Atay & JAX are a new Nova Scotian hip hop group compiled of Adam “Atay” Taylor of Spryfield and Jaxon “JAX” Booth of Lunenburg. In 2019 the duo began collaborating in the studio and are serving up a mellow, alternative hip-hop sound with comedic undertones and small-town stories. $10 at the door, all ages welcome (19+ Bar on site too).

Mar 6 – The Still Fired Band live (New Ross)

The New Ross Legion is happy to have back The Still Fired Band, this Friday at 8:30pm. Aaron and Rachel return to New Ross with house favourite Scott Redden on drums. It promises to be a night of good fun. The Friday Night Entrée will be available (19+)

Mar 6 – TGIF Turkey Dinner (Westfield)

The Westfield Community Centre is hosting their TGIF Monthly Dinner this Friday from 4:30-6pm. Why cook when you can enjoy a full turkey dinner, with dessert, coffee, tea or juice with your neighbours? $10 for adults $5 for kids, Take Out is available as well, please call (902) 682-7149.

Mar 6 – P&R Karaoke at the FirkenStein (Bridgewater)

The FirkenStein Brewery is ready to host you and your friends up on stage! P&R Karaoke is back, and ready to make you a star. Great fun, great beverages, a great way to start the weekend.

Mar 7 – Rotary Flea Market (Lunenburg)

The Rotary Flea Market is being held this Saturday, from 9am to Noon at the Lunenburg Community Hall. Admission is $1. A great opportunity to flex your thrifting muscles with proceeds to support the Rotary Club of Lunenburg community projects. A great part of what’s happening on the South Shore this weekend.

Mar 7 – Toe Up Sock Class (Shelburne)

Celtic Raven Fibres in Shelburne is offering a two-class workshop to learn how to knit Toe Up Socks. Classes are Mar 7 & 14th 10am-12pm. First class you will cast on and get the foot started. 2nd class you will turn your heel and proceed to knit up the leg. Cost is $60.00 +HST pp. yarn and pattern provided. You will need 2.5mm 32 inch circular needles. It is recommended you stop by the studio and pick out your yarn in advance. Message Celtic Raven Fibres via Facebook to register!

Mar 7 – Shoot the Breeze (Caledonia)

Every Saturday morning you are invited to Shoot the Breeze at the Caledonia Pharmachoice. Come on over and talk about books you’ve read, books you’ve written or those you hope to write. Pull up a chair from 10:15am-12:15pm.

Mar 7 – “Paper Bag Princess” Party (Bridgewater)

It’s The Paper Bag Princess’ 40th anniversary and the Margaret Hennigar Library is throwing a party! Join us for a Paper Bag Princess Party, Saturday at 11 am. Enjoy a reading of the classic book, create your own characters, artworks and crown from the story, and have a royal tea. Ages 3+, Costumes are encouraged.

Mar 7 – Cookie Concert with Jennah Barry (Lunenburg)

Musique Royale is pleased to present a Cookie Concert with Jennah Barry, this Saturday at 2pm at the Lunenburg School of Arts. Moving effortlessly between folk, country and soft rock motifs, Jennah Barry’s music sets her at the forefront of a tradition of women making music as strong as it is sentimental. Hailing from the coastal haven of Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia, Jennah Barry is one of Atlantic Canada’s surest sirens. Admission is $5, children 4 and under are free!

Mar 7 – WorkEvolved Office Space Open House (Bridgewater)

WorkEvolved is hosting an Office Space Open House at their new private office spaces this Saturday 10am-12p. Overlooking King Street, these spaces feature plenty of natural light and beautifully refinished hardwood floors. Free wi-fi, parking, all utilities and coffee are included! They are tucked away within the WorkEvolved (formally Co3) co-working space which means it also includes countless networking opportunities and access to ongoing meet ups and events! Mar 7 – Make a Tile with Marla (Bridgewater)

Why not try something new this weekend and head to DesBrisay Museum this Saturday from 2-4pm and Make a Tile with Marla. Meet the VANS in Residence artist Marla Benton. Marla will help visitors create one tile, all materials supplied. Donations welcome for this drop-in workshop, no pre-registration.

Mar 7 – Magic Loop Class (Mahone Bay)

Have A Yarn invites you to learn how to knit using a Magic Loop, this Saturday 10:30am-4:30pm. Perfect for travel or car knitting, magic loop will make knitting in the round easier than ever. You will practice your new skills on a bracelet to wear home, and a tiny ribbed training hat. Skills: INTERMEDIATE. You must be able to knit and purl in the round, work K2tog decreases, cast off and weave in ends. Cast is $60 per person, yarn is provided. Mar 7 – Grand Ole’ Osprey Variety Show (Shelburne)

The Osprey Arts Centre presents Grand Ole’ Osprey Variety Evening this Saturday at 7pm. Join them for a special variety show honouring the legacy of the Grand Ole’ Osprey theatre. The show features 10 performers in a round-robin style with emcee Banjo Bubba hosting the whole shooting match. This will be the first show of 2020 and what great way to celebrate our return to the Osprey theatre. Tickets are $15/door.

Mar 7 – Lunenburg County Youth Jazz Society Winter Concert (Bridgewater)

Join Art Happening for an evening of jazz and improvised music by the Lunenburg County Youth Jazz Society Ensemble (LCYJS) this Saturday at 7pm. The LCYJS is a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring teens to practice and perform jazz and improvised music styles. The ensemble is comprised of 7 musicians between the ages of 13 and 17 and they have been working hard to learn new styles of music as well as compose a song together for this performance. Admission is by donation, and open to all ages.

Mar 7 – The Bold & The Murdered (Liverpool)

The Astor Theatre presents “The Bold & The Murdered“, live theatre for the whole family! Soap opera meets murder mystery and a whole bunch of laughs! A murderous comedy by Don Zolidis. Two performances Mar 7th at 7pm and Mar 8th at 2pm. Tickets are $15 Adults and $10 Students.

Mar 7 – Nolan Natasha & Bart Vautour Evening of Poetry (Lunenburg)

Lexicon Books are excited to present the Lunenburg launch of two exceptional new books of poetry by two Halifax poets: I Can Hear You, Can You Hear Me, by Nolan Natasha; and The Truth About Facts by Bart Vautour, both published by Invisible Publishing. Join them on Saturday, March 7th at 7 p.m. for a great a special evening of poetry reading!

Mar 7 – Coyote Merlot at the Biscuit Eater Cafe and Bookstore (Mahone Bay)

Enjoy Saturday night music at the Biscuit Eater Cafe and Bookstore with Coyote Merlot. Coyote Merlot is a folk duo from BC. whose raw songwriting and acoustic grit is woven with tight harmonies for a sound that is both heartfelt and feral. Tickets are a suggested donation of $10-15. No one turned away for lack of funds!

Mar 7 – Garrett Mason Live at Lane’s

Juno award winning guitarist Garrett Mason, performs live at Lane’s Privateer Inn Restaurant & Pub this Saturday at 7:30pm. Garrett Mason is a true blues-man at heart and son of legendary bluesman Dutch Mason. Come for dinner and stay for the show. Tickets are $20, the event is General Admission.

Mar 8 – Central Nova ATV Fun Run (New Germany)

Central Nova ATV Club is hosting an ATV Fun Run this Sunday starting at 9am. Open to members and friends, come out and explore the trails, meet up with members and enjoy your lunch by the lake. Please RSVP so they know how many to plan for.

Mar 8 – Sunday Afternoon Art Movies (Bridgewater)

This is the final Sunday Afternoon Art Movie for the season with Lunenburg Foundation for the Arts. Enjoy episodes 1 and 3 of “The Story of Women and Art” documentary looking at the life and work of female artists. Starting at 2pm, refreshments are served and admission is by donation.

Mar 8 – VDAY 2020 The Vagina Dialogues Fundraiser (Chester)

Second Story Women’s Centre presents The Vagina Monologues was written by Eve Ensler. Eve interviewed dozens of women about their vaginas, some happy, some funny, and others heartbreaking. The Vagina Monologues is a collection of the experiences of these women. Reception is at 2pm and the show starts at 3pm at the Chester Playhouse Theatre. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online or by calling 902-275-3933. All proceeds help support the Second Story Women’s Centre Program & Services.

Mar 8 – Beaded Earrings Workshop (Shelburne)

The Art COOP Gallery is hosting a Beaded Earring Workshop this Sunday from 2-4pm. Learn the basics of wirework on beads. Participants will learn to use hand tools to create a pair of earrings using wire and beads. Students are encouraged to bring beads that they own and incorporate into the project. $35.00 class fee + $15.00 class kit. Contact the gallery to register.
