March Break on the South Shore

March has arrived, and it’s a little hard to believe. February, even with the extra day, felt like it went by in a flash.  This time of year, if you’re a parent with school-aged kids, means March Break and a full slate of free days is waiting. Good news…there is lots to do to enjoy March Break on the South Shore!

Here in Nova Scotia we never know what the weather will be like mid-March, so you might be looking to make some plans to keep the kids busy and having fun. If you’re home with the kids, working or maybe asking the grandparents to help out, here’s a few ideas for you.

March Break at Ross Farm Museum (New Ross) Temporarily Closed

Ross Farm Museum invites you to spend March Break on the Farm! Each day there will be a new relating to the farm. As always there will be lots of hands-on activities for everyone to enjoy and crafts that everyone can participate in throughout the day. Hot chocolate will be served. Weather permitting, there will be sleigh rides. Open Daily 9am-5pm. Please see full Facebook event for each days new theme!

Stray Dog Art House – March Break Art Camp (Mahone Bay)

Join Stray Dog Art House for a March Break Art Camp, “a week of awesomeness filled with cool art and shenanigans at the Lab”. Five days packed with drawing, painting, sculpture film and more. This is boot camp for the imagination. Open to kids aged 6-14, the Camp runs from March 16-20, 9am-4pm. Registration is $225, all taxes and supplies included. Space is limited.

March Break with the South Shore Public Libraries

The South Shore Public Libraries have a fantastic line up of Free events for March Break. Everything from Games Day, Lego Club, Puppet shows, Escape Rooms, Fort Building, Yoga and so much more. Please see list of events for your local library and registration requirements for those programs that need it.

Mind’s Eye Art Exhibition (Lunenburg) – Temporarily Closed

Lunenburg Art Society opens its 2020 season on March 5th with the Junior and Senior High School students’ art exhibition, titled “Mind’s Eye”. It will feature the art of over 200 students from seven schools in the Regional Centre for Education. The Lunenburg Art Gallery will be open every day during March Break from 12 – 5 pm. A fantastic way to spend a day and celebrate the young artistic minds of the South Shore

March Break Kids Diffuser Bracelet Workshop – March 17 (Bridgewater) 

Wellnesswithinns and Sand Dollar Silver are hosting a Kids Diffuser Bracelet Workshop Tuesday March 17th, Get creative, learn about the stones and crystals and their meanings. Have a snack, chat and create a personalised bracelet. Cost is $20 per child and includes snack. Please email to register

Boy Talk – Presented by Second Story Women’s Centre (Lunenburg)

Second Story Women’s Centre is piloting a new program…Boy Talk! This FREE March-Break camp is open to boys aged 9-12. Throughout the day, boys will meet and engage with other boys from their community, participate in creative and physical activities and learn – through presentations and age-appropriate discussions – about topics such as body image, puberty, gender and sexuality, and positive relationships. Registration is now open.

March Break at White Point Beach Resort (Liverpool) As of Saturday morning all March Break recreational activities are still happening with the exception of superstitions & ghost stories with Linda Moulton Saturday night and Chef Jay’s doughnut demo on Sunday.

Well, if there’s anyone who knows how to do March Break up right…it’s White Point Beach Resort. While the pool, beach and bunnies might be enough for some, there are “family feature events” each day for March Break at the Beach! It’s a fun-filled week for the entire family. Come for our GR8 line-up of themed daily special events, face painting. swimming, marshmallow roasts, and even Karaoke Dance Parties and maybe even Paint Nites. Pack your swimmers, and your mittens, and make plans to have a fun!

2020 GLW Lumberjacks March Break Hockey Tournament (Bridgewater & Liverpool) – CANCELLED

If you have a kid in hockey, March Break means one thing…a hockey tournament! There’s lots of action to catch here on the South Shore with the always popular GLW Lumberjacks March Break Tournament. With over 70 teams registered and games in Bridgewater, Lunenburg and Liverpool, there are lots of opportunities to come cheer the kids on and support our young athletes . March Hare Tea Party at the Biscuit Eater Cafe & Bookstore March 15 & 22 (Mahone Bay) RESCHEDULED!
Due to uncertainty and public health warnings around COVID-19 we are postponing our tea parties with tentative dates of March 29 & April 5

Break up the March madness with literary fun for all ages in our historic building! Adventure down the rabbit hole to Wonderland for a March Hare High Tea Party at The Biscuit Eater Cafe. Channel your inner Mad Hatter or Queen of Hearts and wear your most ridiculous outfits while eating delectable delights. Along with their high tea menu they will have a limited brunch menu. Tickets are limited so RSVP quick either in the cafe or online

HB Studios Sports Centre March Break Open Play Space – Cancelled

HB Studios Sports Centre has some March Break events happening. There are additional Open Field Times Monday – Friday 9-10am for ages 4-8 and ages 9-12 6-7pm. As well as the popular Board Game Bonanza on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10am -12pm, all ages. There will be various board games available or bring your own!. Rates are $5 per child and $10 per family. 

Explore Outdoors with the MARC – March 16 (Dayspring) – Cancelled

Lunenburg Recreation is partnering with the Better Together Family Resource Centre to offer caregiver’s and children a chance to Explore Outdoors. This FREE event takes place Monday March 16 10am-12pm, The morning will feature interactive outdoor and environmental activities that will reconnect children with nature. Please dress for the outdoors. Free infant care available inside the MARC so caregivers can join older children outdoors. Please pre-register by calling (902) 541-1343 or register online

Pizza Bowl and Twoonie Bowling (Lunenburg) – Temporarily Closed

Pajos Bowling in Lunenburg has some specials happening during March Break. Monday – Friday enjoy Pizza Bowl at 12-2pm & 4-6pm, bowling and pizza for $10pp. You can also take advantage of Twoonie Bowl 2-4pm, $2 for shoes and $2 a string. Please call in advance for availability (902) 634-8344

March Break Day Camps at the LCLC (Bridgewater) – Cancelled

Once again the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre is holding March Break Day Camps. All kinds of wonderful things to take part in, swimming, skating, art & crafts with a few surprises as well. You can register in person, online or by calling (902) 530-4100

Winter Wonderland – March 22 (Mahone Bay)

Lunenburg Recreation is planning a day of snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and orienteering through Jubilee Park before warming up around the campfire with hot dogs and hot chocolate! Snowshoes and Skis on hand to borrow, skating on the pond (conditions permitting). Join them from 2-4pm for this FREE event. A great way to wind up March Break.

Think Tank Escape Rooms (Bridgewater)

Looking for something a little different over March Break? Why not exercise your brain, and book a Think Tank Escape Room experience? Choose from one of three themed rooms, this live-action game encourages you to work together to solve puzzles, riddles and clues to “escape” a room within a specified time limit. They have extended hours 10am – 10pm during March Break, so grab the gang and see if you can escape.

Free March Break Movie Madness at the Astor Theatre (Liverpool) – Temporarily Closed

 

The Astor Theatre in Liverpool has an incredible line up of FREE movies over March Break. Titles that will please all ages, for more information on the movies and time visit the Astor Website.

March Break Activities in Shelburne – CANCELLED

The Municipality of the District of Shelburne has a number of free events happening over the March Break. Everything from recreational hockey, bowling, open gym hours and a Family Gnome Walk are planned to help you keep the kids, and yourself busy. 

March Break at the Black Loyalist Heritage Centre – Temporarily Closed

The Black Loyalist Heritage Centre is open daily during March Break. Family Admission will is only $15 (+tax) for 2 adults and 3 children/students. A great way to spend some time together during the break. 
 

March Break Bowling Specials in Liverpool

Route 3 Cellar Taproom and Grill is offering some bowling specials over March Break. 1/2 price bowling on Sunday ($10 lane/max 5 people)**, or enjoy lunch or dinner at the Grill and get an hour of bowling for free. **first come first serve
 

Free Public Skating Parties

I hope you haven’t packed your skates away just yet. A number of South Shore Arenas are offering free public skating parties during March Break. Suzanne Lohnes-Croft MLA, Lunenburg will be hosting a Free Family Skate Monday March 16th at the Lunenburg Arena from 6:00pm-7:00pm, free hot dogs and hot chocolate too! Bridgewater Lions are hosting a Free Skate at the LCLC as well on March 16th 1:30-3pm. The Riverport & District Lions Club are hosting a Free Skate at the Lunenburg Arena Tuesday March 17th from 2:30-4:30pm, have a skate and warm up with free hot chocolate!

Thanks to all the organizers, volunteers and facility operators who work hard to plan special events and programming during this time. Lots of options to keep everyone happy during the March Break on the South Shore! Enjoy….and remember…it’s supposed to be a “break”. Curling up with a good book, watching a movie at home or going for a beach walk, all sound good too. 🙂
