Here we are, the last weekend before Christmas Day and our last “What’s Happening” post of 2020! The halls have been decked, cookies baked and the kids are soon out of school. What’s Happening on Friday December 18th, 2020

Dec 18 – Skate with the Lumberjacks Foodbank Fundraiser (Bridgewater)

Come skate with the Jacks this Friday at the LCLC! The game against the Wildcats may have been canceled, but that doesn’t mean we cant have some fun. Admission is a non perishable food items or cash donation to the food bank, skate times are 5:00-6:00, 6:15-7:15 & 7:30-8:30. Max 50 skaters per session

Dec 18 – Aaron Warren live at Bayport Pub (Bayport)

Dec 18 – GameChangers live at FirkenStein Brewing (Bridgewater)

FirkenStein Brewing welcomes back The GameChangers this Friday from 8-11pm. This Blues-Groove trio will have you tapping your toes at your table. Grab your bubble mates and start the weekend of right.

Dec 18 – 2020 Toy Drive (Bridgewater)

Excited to Announce that Moose Mortgages and King Street Beer Company have teamed up with Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Shore for a Holiday Toy Drive. Toys, Gift Cards and Gift Baskets have already started to come in, a reminder deadline is December 18th. Drop off locations are Moose Mortgages, King St Street Beer Company, Saltbox Brewery, The Barn Coffee and Social House and Big Brothers Big Sisters Let’s make the holidays special for everyone!

Dec 19 – Christmas Craft Fair (Lunenburg)

Christmas Craft Fair in Lunenburg coming up this Saturday! Visit the Lunenburg Community Centre between 2-8pm and shop local this holiday and find quality, unique gifts for your loved ones and for yourselves. You will find preserves, baked goods, candles, knitting, books, jewelry, clothing, bags, art, tea/coffee and treats, and so much more! Not to mention live music on our stage!

Dec 19 – Christmas at the Kitch: A Virtual Makers Market

The Kitch’Inn had to cancel their physical makers market, so they moved it online with Christmas at the Kitch: A Virtual Makers Market. There’s no need to be stuck for ideas this Holiday season – Explore gift ideas, tasty bits and decorations from a hand curated group of local Makers and Artisans. It’s an extravaganza of bespoke and unique gifts including jewellery, art, ceramics, clothing, holiday decor, and so much more! There is bound to be something for everyone on Santa’s nice list!

Dec 19 – Magical Winter Gnome Trail (Bridgewater)

The team of MLA Mark Furey has been busy decorating trails in Bridgewater. Find some holiday magic along the Magical Gnome Walk at Glen Allan Park, Bridgewater! A fun activity for kids and kids at heart. Discover winter gnomes of all shapes and sizes hiding on tree stumps, bridges and other secret places. Take a photo of a gnome or holiday decoration on its own or with you or your family and post it in the comments section on Facebook at MarkFureyMLA or email it to . Your name will be entered in a draw for a prize, including a 3 months walking pass for HB Studios Sports Centre and some Town of Bridgewater swag!

Dec 19 – Global Fat Bike Day with Sweet Ride Cycling (Mahone Bay)

Sweet Ride Cycling have teamed up with the Old Black Forest Restaurant to offer two great Fat Bike Rides and Tasty Eats this Saturday. Their Saturday Morning Beginner Fat Bike Ride will include a stop at the Old Black Forest as part their 9am -10:30am ride and then they will have an evening ride (High-powered Lights required) that will depart at 6pm and include a mid-ride stop at the Old Black Forest. Space is limited to 20pp for each ride so please contact them at the shop to book a spot on either the morning or evening ride. To book your spot, please call us by phone (902) 531-3026 or email. Dec 19 – Privateers Holiday Farmers Market

The Privateer Farmers’ Market will be hosting another Christmas market this Saturday. One last opportunity to shop and support local for the Holidays. This event will be following strict covid guidelines to make shopping local safe. Masks will be worn by all, there will be seperate entrance and exit, social distancing cues, tables will be spaced a minimum of 6’ apart, hand sanitation spaces will be available and suggested, and numbers indoors at a time will be limited.

Dec 19 – Stroll Along the Jordan River Holiday Trail

The Shelburne Recreation Department has been busy decorating trails for the holidays. Grab the kids and take a walk along the Jordan River Holiday Trail. Elves have decorated the trail for all to enjoy, including lights, so a visit in the evening can be in your plans (bring a flashlight for extra safety)

Dec 19 – Public Skates at LCLC (Bridgewater)

Grab your bubble members, pack up your skates and head to the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre and hit the ice. Public skates are happening Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Check their website for all COIVD-19 protocols.

Dec 19- Shawn Hebb live at Osprey Nest Public House (Petite Riviere)

The Osprey Nest Public House welcomes back fan favourite Shawn Hebb this Saturday from 6-9pm. Head down for a delicious meal, cozy atmosphere and great music.

Dec 19 – Stephen Dicks live at Saltbox Brewing Co. (Mahone Bay)

Bringing a little Christmas music to the Saltbox this Saturday is Stephen Dicks from the popular DUO. Music starts at 7pm!

What’s Happening on Sunday December 20th, 2020

Dec 20 – Caledonia Christmas Bird Count

The Christmas Bird Count (CBC) is one of the oldest annual bird surveys in the Western hemisphere and has been happening for 120 years! The National Audubon Society uses this information to assess bird population health and guide conservation efforts. This year Mersey Tobeatic Research Institute is organizing the CBC for the Caledonia area (including Keji) this Sunday. Get involved by registering via e-mail, and record all the birds around you on Dec. 20. Together we can help keep every holiday filled with bird songs.

Dec 20 – Bridgewater Holiday Market (Bridgewater)

Join Bridgewater Farmers’ Market on the final day of their modified Holiday Markets.  25+ vendors (some of your regular farmers’ market vendors and other local makers) will be set up inside and outside the Bridgewater Arena to bring you more local choices for your holiday shopping and entertaining. A wonderful part of what is happening on the South Shore this weekend.

Dec 20 – Winter Solstice Celebration (Cookville)

Join Brittany and The Essence Yoga Lifestyle Community for their signature event – The Annual Winter Solstice Celebration. 2020 has been a year for the books, with many emotions, changes and struggles. Join in and move forward into 2021 with intention, love and compassion. Class will be candle lit and will combine mantra, meditation, flowing vinyasa yoga and more. Dec 20 – Tim McGuire & Michel Doucet Exhibition (Lunenburg)

The Lunenburg Art Gallery Society has extended their exhibition featuring by Tim McGuire & Michel Doucet. New paintings in oil featuring scenes from Nova Scotia need to be seen in person to truly appreciate. Open this weekend Fri, Sat & Sun 11am-8pm. All COVID-19 Protocols in place.

Dec 20 – Kiwanis Club of Liverpool presents the 89th Annual Christmas Concert (Online)

Liverpool Kiwanis Club was not going to let the pandemic stop them from continuing with the long running annual Christmas concert. With a lot of coordination and effort, they are presenting this years 89th concert online via Facebook Live. Join them on their Facebook Page Sunday at 7pm and enjoy.
