One of the most amazing things about the South Shore is that there is never a lack for something to do. This weekend is no different. From fantastic live music, to teddy bear picnics, from county fairs, to wrestling, from art exhibits, to blueberry suppers; the list goes on and on. August 9 – Garden Party and Teddy Bear Picnic

What's Happening on the South Shore

The Barn and Tummy to Mummy Kids Shop have teamed up to host a Garden Party and Teddy Bears Picnic! Come on down to The Barn between 4pm-6pm, it’s perfect for the whole family. Kids bring your favourite stuffy, enjoy the bubble station and enter to win a Jellycat stuffy. Refreshments, lawn games and face painting courtesy of the Barn. (Rain date: August 16th)

August 9 – Build a Boat Weekend

The Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic and Maritime Museum of the Atlantic invite you to stop by the museum over the weekend and watch 3 groups building their own Bevin Skiff. It’s a chance to see boat building up close and personal and watch the preservation of a Nova Scotia tradition.

August 9 – The Square Show Exhibit

The Debrisay Museum presents SQUARE SHOW EXHIBIT from August 3 to September 7. Over 100 pieces of artwork in a range of styles created by artists from across Nova Scotia. Artwork will have a variety of styles and mediums. This is a free event, though donations are appreciated.

August 9 – The Gamechangers at the Firkenstein

Head on over to FirkenStein Brewing to dance the night away with the Gamechangers. This energetic trio Blues/Groove trio are guaranteed to keep you moving.

August 9 – Rich Aucoin presents “Wet, Hot Canadian Summer”

Rich Aucoin takes over the Shore Club with “Wet, Hot, Canadian Summer”. Set on the last day of band camp, in the hot summer of 2019, a group of Artists try to complete their unfinished business before the night ends. It all comes together with a talent show that includes audience participation with Crowd Karaoke – which is the best kind of karaoke where you’re surrounded by your friends singing together at the top of your lungs. Tickets are $20, available via Eventbrite. The show is 19+.

August 9, 10, 11- South Shore in Motion

From Truck Pulls and Burnouts to Motocross Barrel Racing, South Shore in Motion has been turning engines, wheels and heads since 2004. You can check out the weekend schedule of events here

August 9, 10, 11 – Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival

The Lunenburg Folk Harbour Society celebrates the 34th Annul Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival with four music filled days in the historic town. A chance to hear favourites such as Jennah Barry, Matt Anderson and Joel Plaskett, as well as check out up and coming artists throughout the weekend. Festival Passes and Tickets available via TicketPro or at the Festival Office at 125 Montague St. Lunenburg.A wonderful part of what’s happening on the South Shore this weekend.

August 10 – Shelburne County Agricultural Exhibition

Featuring Horse Pulls, Barrel Racing, the Lions Queen of the Ex competition, chainsaw juggling, donair eating contest, Monster trucks and more…. the Shelburne County Ex is not to be missed. East Coast amusements are back this year with rides and games. Admission $6.00 for Adults, Kids 10-15 and Seniors are $3.00 for daily passes, kids under 10 are free.

August 10 – Chester Classics Regatta

Chester Classics Fleet and Gold River Marina are hosting the Chester Classics Regatta. Three “pursuit style” races across three afternoons open to all keel boats. Sail one, two, or all three! Or come on down and watch the races. Everyone is welcome. All proceeds to go to Autism Charities

August 10 – Western Shore & District Fire Department Garden Party

Always a fun-filled day. The Western Shore & District Fire Department Garden Party kicks off with it’s Punt Races, followed by the parade, games of chance, Garden Party Supper, live music and fireworks (weather permitting).

August 10 – Third Annual Mackerel Tournament

The Brooklyn Marina is hosting its 3rd Annual Mackerel Tournament. Taking place in and around Liverpool Harbour, cast out for your chance at prizes for largest fish. Registration: $5 per entrant Registration at Brooklyn Marina Aug 5th to 9th: 9am to 4pm and Aug 10th: 7am to 11am

August 10 – Liverpool VillageFest

The Liverpool Village Fest 2019 is being held at the Mill Village & District Fire Hall, rain or shine. Lunch from 1-3pm, Supper form 4-6pm, with live music, beer tent and silent auction. Adults $12, Children (5-12) $6, kids under 5 are free!

August 10 – Into the HeART of You Painting Workshop

Mary Dixon Works Of Heart and Mosaic Healing Arts Institute presents a monthly series called “Into the HeART of You” Painting Workshops, using art to connect with your heart. There will be guided meditation as well during this process, time for sharing, time to slow down. Tune out the outside world, tune in to yourself, with an afternoon of Painting-as-Meditation! Registration is $75 for 4 hour session.

August 10 – Poker Run

South Shore Chapter of Autism Nova Scotia is holding a Poker Run from 9:30am-5pm. Meet at Chester Area Middle School and head out to cruise the beautiful Lighthouse Route on the South Shore of Nova Scotia. Finish your trek back at New Ross Fire Hall for a cash barbeque. Registration 9:00am to 10:30am. All is support of Autism Nova Scotia- South Shore Chapter.

August 10 – Cape Day 2019

Friends of the Cape Sable Lighthouse invite you to come explore the most southern tip in Nova Scotia during Cape Day 2019. Cape Sable is home to the Cape Sable Lighthouse, the tallest lighthouse in the Maritimes. This island is an outdoor adventurers paradise! Cost is what you wish to make as a donation. All donations are used to pay the costs of the day as well as continued upkeep of the island and lighthouse area.

August 11 – ProKids Fundraiser

The District of Lunenburg Recreation is hosting the ProKids Fundraiser:Helping Dreamers become Doers. Join them for a fun afternoon to support a great cause, with silent auction, BBQ, games, face painting, and much more. Stick around after 6:00 pm to enjoy a community campfire. This event has no admission cost, all of the proceeds from the silent auction will go directly to PRO Kids, as well as any donations at the BBQ.

August 11 – An afternoon of live music with Melanie Peterson

Join Toronto based, Saskatoon born, folk singer-songwriter Melanie Peterson for an intimate afternoon of live music at Petite Riviere Vineyards in NS while enjoying an elegant glass of wine. Melanie will be accompanied by Peter Collins on bass. Tickets are $20 available via Eventbrite.

August 11 – Summer Concert Series

The Summer Concert Series offers free weekly concerts on Sundays at 2pm, and continues this weekend as a part of the Folk Harbour Festival. Stop by the Heritage Bandstand, it is a great event to attend with friends and family!

August 11 – Blueberry Supper

The Forties Community Centre is holding a Blueberry Supper this Sunday. Hodge-podge, ham and cucumbers & cream plus a variety of Blueberry desserts. Yum! Doors open at 4 serving starts 4:30. Adults $ 13, 5-12 $ 7, under 5- $ 3.

August 11 – “Rattle the Halls” with the Jazz Dabblers and Mersey Swing Band

What's Happening on the South Shore

The Osprey Hall presents: “Rattle the Halls”, a summer-long festival of music celebrating local talent throughout the Shelburne area at familiar and intimate halls. The Jazz Dabblers and Mersey Swing Band collaborate for a jazzy afternoon matinee which will fill the hall with sounds of brass instruments and jazz guitar. Tickets: $10 advance, $12 at the door (cash only), $7 student OR buy a $25 OspreyCard membership at the door and see the show for FREE!

August 11 – Wrestle Nova Scotia “You, Me and Dupree”

Let’s get ready to rumble! Music is not the only thing happening in Lunenburg this weekend. Wrestle Nova Scotia presents “You, Me and Dupree” at the Lunenburg Community Centre. Doors open: 6PM (5:30PM/advance tickets) Bell Time: 6:45PM. Adults – $20, Children (12 & under) – $12 and Seniors – $12. Advance Tickets available at: Charlies Pizza (Bridgewater), Most Wanted Pawn (Bridgewater) & Cleves Source for Sports (Bridgewater).

August 11 – Joel Plaskett on the Main Stage

Lunenburgs own Joel Plaskett takes over the Main Stage of the Folk Harbour Festival Sunday evening. A Canadian favourite, his solo performance is sure to entertain everyone. Tickets available via TicketPro, $45 for Adults, $22.50 Youth under 26.
