Sunday Morning Coffee

Sunday mornings I usually take some time to read stories I may not have time for through the week. I plan to share some of my favourite stories here so that you might catch up on them as you enjoy a Sunday Morning Coffee!

Cottage Reno Complete – Front Porch Mercantile

In my reading about FAT paint and workshops I stumbled upon the Front Porch Mercantile website and blog. From their About page… Front Porch Mercantile is a casual but creative workshop and retail location that offers an assortment of beautiful hand painted furniture, unique decor items and specialty Canadian made paint products and accessories. They happen to also have a satellite location in Lunenburg at Mom’s Buy and Sell, where they sell some products and also do workshops.

Reading a bit through her blog posts I landed on her #1 blog post from last year…their Cottage Reno post. This post, and a link to a previous one…talk about how after getting married and camping in Lunenburg for 25 years, they finally bought a tiny little house in Blue Rocks and renovated it. After renting it for a few years, they have now turned it into a cottage rental. Reading about their love of Lunenburg, and vision for creating this little “escape” is really inspiring. It’s so easy to take for granted all the beauty around us. Hearing how others notice, love and appreciate it, should make us all take note.

After checking out their airbnb listing, I want to start driving around and looking for a fixer-upper. My husband used to flip houses, before flipping houses was a “thing”. His “spring fever” should soon kick in and he’ll start dreaming about a new project….hmmmmm. 😉

Anyone want to spend a weekend in Blue Rocks this summer?

Our cottage by the sea is ready for renters and done enough for now. There are a million other little (and big) things we plan to do at the cottage but we’re calling it done enough for now.We re-loved, reused, recycled. We upcycled, borrowed, painted, picked and scrubbed. We put a lot of love into this little place. It’s not perfect, but we think maybe it’s perfectly imperfect for now.

6 steps to create a super simple vegetable garden plan Savvy Gardening | Cultivating curiosity and confidence

What’s better than on a cold February weekend, dreaming and planning your vegetable garden for this spring! I have a small vegetable garden that brings me so much joy each year. Even though I have had many failures, the food I do manage to grow for my family, is always one of the highlights of my year.

Last year was the first time I kept a garden notebook. Writing down when I planted….what variety…when they produced, etc. It’s a rough, pencil drawn sketch…usually written down while I’m out there. This year I think I should do more “planning” instead of just being drawn in by the seed packet displays, greenhouses, etc. I love this simple approach to thinking about what you want to grow, and where you will be planting it. Tell me you don’t feel a little warm inside after looking at some garden pics…even on a snowy, windy day in February. 😉

Creating a vegetable garden plan doesn’t have to be hard. In fact, taking the time to draw out a plan will make your life much easier, trust me.
