NOW Lunenburg County Magazine Launch

You learn a lot from travelling the country and talking to people. Especially when your road trip involved a boler camper covered in photos and your mission was to get people to move to a new area. That was the last years huge project for Now Lunenburg County. Out of that, came the realization that they needed something in print to go along with their mission. The NOW Lunenburg County Magazine was born.

NOW Lunenburg County

Following the release of the Now or Never report, produced by the Nova Scotia Commission on Building our New Economy,  a group of business owners gathered to discuss a local response. NOW Lunenburg County was established with a passion and a mission…

The builders of paths toward a vibrant and sustainable Lunenburg County economy that will support a way of life that is cherished by new and old residents.

Involved with many projects over the last four years, launching a growth strategy for Lunenburg County was one. Existing businesses often site a lack of available work force when trying to fill positions. The goal of the growth strategy was to increase the population of Lunenburg County enough to reverse the net outflow of people.

A population growth strategy represents an opportunity to effectively bridge the gap between people looking for opportunities of employment, quality of life, and a safe community, and Lunenburg County communities’ need to increase populations.

NOW Lunenburg County Magazine

Recently the NOW Lunenburg County Magazine held a launch party at Wile’s Lake Farm Market,  where sponsors, designers, contributors and featured individuals and businesses gathered. It was exciting to actually see and hold the magazine that had been in the works for so long. The design and photographs are beautiful and the magazine is filled with stories of people who live and work here.

I also contributed two stories the magazine, and couldn’t wait to see them in print!  One story featured a family business in Barss Corner I had previously wrote about here. They design and manufacture Murphy Wall Beds for all of Atlantic Canada.

The other story was on Elliot Wajchendler and Hannah Cook. After studying and living in Toronto for a while, they decided to move back to Hannah’s home place in Lunenburg County. They have been restoring a 100-year-old farmhouse on the Cook property and documenting it all on YouTube. Their channel, Wabi Sab-E, now has close to 70 000 subscribers and their videos regularly receive over 150 000 views each. I love what they are doing to the farmhouse and that they have created their own job in the process.
