Let’s Meet for Lunch- The Port Grocer, Port Medway

If you’re around me long enough you may occasionally hear me  whisper “I want to live in Port Medway“. 😉  Their lovely Lighthouse Park, the Readers Festival and the beautiful Port Medway Art and Design…heck we even started our own little venture and opened Port Medway Bunkies last summer. But,  if I’m really being honest, a big part of what always has me dreaming about Port Medway…is the The Port Grocer.

I don’t even know where to start with what I love about The Port Grocer. There’s just something about this place…this community hub… where you feel like you’ve walked back in time. From the locals gathered around their meeting table having coffee in the front, to their screen porch seating area in the back, every area of the Port Grocer is welcoming and feels like home.

Part of The Port Grocer’s mission statement includes, “continuously strive to create an open and welcoming community hub; where young and old can come together to eat, learn, share and grow.” What a beautiful sentiment and makes me understand why this space has become such a community resource and destination.  They are a centre for art, music, culture & community with a focus on local and supporting other rural businesses.

Summertime at the Port Grocer

I stopped in recently on a chilly March day for a quick, warm-up lunch. They have a cafe that offers soups, salads, sandwiches and other main items that you order at the counter, as well as delicious coffee and drinks. You can check out the complete Port Grocer menu here.  The Cafe hours are from 11:00am-2:30pm.

I had a really yummy bacon and goat cheese Quiche and tomato soup for lunch and was warm and cozy in the colorful dining area with beautiful art work and cotton tablecloths on every table. Such an inviting space!

We’ve also attended the Friday Night Pub Nights, which are just amazing! They start at 6:00pm and careful planning has to be done  to arrive early enough to grab seats.  You can enjoy an amazing dinner and then listen to the live music and even join in on some dancing. If you haven’t been to a Pub Night yet…I highly encourage you to grab and some friends and head down. Check out their Facebook page to watch some videos from these fun, music filled nights. 🙂

Did I mention their delicious Sunday Brunch? There’s no better way to start a Sunday in the summer than heading to brunch at The Port Grocer,  checking out the Port Medway Craft and Vendor’s Market and take a little stroll through their community garden. It’s like The Port Grocer asked me for a list of my favorite things…and made it come to life! Brunch, Markets and Gardens…yes please!!!

The Port Grocer is also as its name states, a small, rural grocer. They carry eggs, meat and dairy products, dry and canned goods, as well as Canada Post. You can also place a bi-monthly dry goods order and also weekly bread orders. Did I mention they also have yoga and a knitting club!

If you haven’t been to The Port Grocer yet…you really must check it out. It’s one of those hidden gems on the South Shore, and trust me once you’ve been there once, you immediately start planning your next visit. 😉

Be sure to check out some our other Let’s Meet for Lunch posts and also our Let’s Meet for Coffee…and Let’s Go Out for Dinner.

Have you been to the Port Grocer yet? Tell me what you love about it? 🙂

Oh my such a lovely spot. I can see how it has grown and has such a sense of community. The knitters club is such a wonderful addition.
    Good luck.
