What’s Happening on the South Shore this Weekend (Nov 27 – 29, 2020)

It seems like the South Shore, and the rest of the world for that matter, are ready to fully embrace the holiday season. Lights are up, houses decorated, craft shows and festivals happening all over. A number of our wonderful South Shore towns are hosting modified versions of their annual Christmas events, a great chance to support local and get ourselves into the holiday spirit. Let’s see what’s happening on the South Shore this weekend!

What’s Happening on the South Shore on Friday, November 27th, 2020

Nov 27 to 29 – Chester Village Christmas (Chester)

The Village of Chester is ready to celebrate the season with you. Join them for their Chester Village Christmas celebration all weekend long. Visit all the wonderful shops and support local while checking off your lists. Pickup a Festive ARTivity Kit to take home from the Chester Art Centre. Go online and enjoy the tree lighting virtually on Friday evening, snap a photo of Fido in his holiday finest, and submit online for the virtual 2nd Annual Pet parade, enjoy tasty treats at cosy cafes, and see how many Gingerbread men you can find.

Nov 27 to Dec 24 – Tis a Mahone Bay Christmas (Mahone Bay)

This weekend kicks of the Tis a Mahone Bay Christmas celebration. Mahone Bay will be decorated and ready to celebrate the holiday season! Discover festive flavours and unique boutique shopping to enjoy as you stroll the town. Gingerbread and Tiny Tree Decorating are back too, this year as take home kits (available Nov 28 & Dec 5) See if you can spot all Christmas Gnomes who have made their way to town!

Nov 27 – Clickity Clack Knitting Group (Bridgewater)

Calling all knitters and crocheters, experienced or learning. You are invited to Clickty-Clack Knitting Group this Friday from 10am-12pm at the DesBrisay Museum. Instruction for beginners and socialization for the more experienced knitters. Some supplies are available and lots of patterns for beginners. Join them for a relaxing morning of knitting/crocheting and chatting.

Nov 27 – Ladies Christmas Craft Night (Oakhill)

Impact Church is hosting a Ladies Christmas Craft Night this Friday. Gather your bubble of 4-6 ladies and enjoy an evening making festive candle holders, door prizes and Christmas baking. Cost is $5 per person. Call 902-298-7862 to register.

Nov 27 – Kristen Martell live at Chester’s Cafe (Chester)

Head to Chester’s Cafe and join Mahone Bay singer/songwriter Kristen Martell this Friday at 6:30pm for an evening of warm original favourites, as part of the Chester Village Christmas. Come enjoy some hot chai cider, Christmas cookies, dinner and drink specials as you experience a Village Christmas.

Nov 27 – The Nice Guys live at Bayport Pub (Bayport)

This Friday evening from 7-9pm for their live music Bayport Pub have the always talented, The Nice Guys coming back to perform! Call or message to save your table (902)-764-2404.

What’s Happening on Saturday November 28th, 2020

Nov 28 – Mini Pop-Up Christmas Market (Oak Hill)

Pamela Anns is hosting a Mini Pop-Up Christmas Market this Saturday from 10am-4pm. Finish your Christmas shopping & support local crafters and artisans of the South Shore. Vendor list includes; Pats & Kats Mittens and more, Bardo Glass, Yvonne Daubs with her famous white bread and crochet things, Sue & Olivia with Macrame pot hangers, knitting, soaps and sea glass pics and of course Pamela Anns. Covid Protocols will be in place, masks and social distancing required.

Nov 28 & 29 – Artists of White Point Christmas Show (White Point)

The Artists of White Point Christmas Show is happening this weekend, from 10am-4pm each day. Do some early Christmas shopping from an array of local vendors and makers. This years show if a Ticketed Event. Admission is free but you must register ahead of time for your admission ticket. Please see full facebook event for list of vendors and COVID-19 Protocols.

Nov 28 – Gnome Grotto at South Shore Waldorf School (Blockhouse)

Join the South Shore Waldorf School and take a journey through the Gnome Grotto. A magical wonderland filled with jolly gnomes and their woodland friends. While COVID has cancelled their Holly & Ivy Fair, they are excited to be able to bring one of the most magical activities to you and this year it will be bigger than ever! Tickets are $7.50 and must be pre-purchased online. Space is limited.

Nov 28 – Christmas Tree U-Pick at Bar M Ranch (New Ross)

We think this year is the perfect year to get your holiday decorations up early, why not pick out your tree as well? Bar M Ranch is hosting a Christmas Tree U-Pick this weekend, with two different time slots to choose from. Time slots on Nov 28/29 will be morning (10am-noon) or afternoon (1-4pm). Nov 28 – NannyGoat Art & Craft Pop-Up (Lunenburg)

NannyGoat Art is hosting a Pop-Up Shop this over the next few weekends, including this Saturday at the Topmast Motel in Lunenburg between 1-3pm. See, Sip, & Shop, see the incredible view, sip complementary hot tea and shop eclectic mixed media artworks.
The Pop-Up Shop sign located at the front of yellow building where you will find your host in Unit #9. Covid protocols in effect. No public washrooms. Plenty of parking.

Nov 28 – Beginner Fat Bike Ride (Mahone Bay)

Sweet Ride Cycling‘s Beginner Fat Bike Ride is a go for this Saturday at 9am, leaving from the public parking lot on Clairmont Street behind the Kinburn Pharmasave in Mahone Bay. You will do a combination of wooded terrain and rail trail so bring your zest for adventure.There a few rental bikes available but pre-booking is required by 5pm, Friday (902) 531-3026. At this time we have to ask that we “KEEP IT LOCAL” following public health directives, and ask that our fabulous friends from the Halifax area postpone joining us until COVID numbers have decreased.

Nov 28 – 2020 Barrington & Area Chamber of Commerce Christmas Event (Barrington)

In lieu of their annual Christmas Parade, the Barrington & Area Chamber of Commerce invites you to their Christmas Event. Head to the Barrington Exhibition Grounds between 5-7pm to walk around and view the beautiful Christmas floats. COVID-19 restrictions apply.

Nov 28 – A Night of Jazz and Blues (Mahone Bay)

The Mahone Bay Jazz & Blues Festival in partnership with the Three Churches Foundation presents; A Night of Jazz & Blues! this Saturday from 6:30-10pm. at the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Featuring: Garrett Mason, Patricia Watson & Kaylyn Turner. Doors, tickets are $25 (taxes included) Doors open at 6:30pm. Limited spaces! Preorder your tickets today via email. Social distancing will be in effect. Some tickets will be available at the door however it is strongly recommend you reserve ahead of time.

Nov 28 & 29 – Beethoven & Beyond! (Lunenburg)

The Ludwig at LAMP series continues into November! Join them this Saturday, Nov 28: seven incredible young singers wrap up a week-long opera studio with celebrated soprano Jane Archibald. Sunday, Nov 29: A concert of French repertoire with pianists Anna Han and Ian Tomaz, including four hands! These concerts are just one hour in length with socially-distanced seating and a maximum of 50 people. Admission is by donation. Please call 902-634-8667 for additional details or to reserve as they customize seating for each concert according to reservations. Masks are required and temperatures will be checked.

Nov 28 – Matt Steele & Kristen Martell live at King Street Beer Co. (Bridgewater)

King Street Beer Co. welcome Mahone Bay singer songwriter Kristen Martell and Halifax-based singer songwriter Matt Steele for the release of his album ‘Apparition Edition’. Join them this Saturday from 8-10pm for a stripped down version of select tracks from his band Matt Steele & the Sunset Corvette’s 2018 debut ‘Half Girl, Half Ghost’.

Nov 28 – Saucy Jack live at FirkenStein Brewing (Bridgewater)

FirkenStein Brewing welcomes back Saucy Jack this Saturday 8pm. Always a good time. COVID-19 protocols in place, which means the only dancing allowed is wiggling in your seats, and we are okay with that.

Nov 28 – The Colprits live at Mulligan’s Sports Bar (Bridgewater)

This Saturday from 8 to 11 Mulligan’s Sports Bar are very happy to have The Colprits. Stop by for a drink , snack or just to say hi and enjoy some great music.

Nov 29 – Chester Farmers’ & Artisan Christmas Market (Chester)

A wonderful part of the Chester Village Christmas is the return of the Chester Farmers’ & Artisan Christmas Market. Support local this Sunday as 15 local vendors will be bringing their best to the Chester Legion between 9am-1pm.

Nov 29 – Entertainment on Pleasant St. **CANCELLED**

The Chester Playhouse Theatre is bringing Entertainment onto Pleasant St. this Sunday. A part of the Chester Village Christmas celebration, enjoy performances by Dark &Stormy, Cams Christmas Carolers and En Pointe Dance Studio, as you stroll through the village. This event has been cancelled

Nov 29 – Christmas Wreath Workshop (Martins River)

River Ridge Lodge invites you to join their Christmas Wreath Workshop. Get creative during a fun-filled afternoon with Tara and Frauke while creating your very own 16″ wreath. Enjoy the scent of the fresh balsam fir while you create in a beautifully rustic barn filled with carols. We will also provide fresh juniper and pine, as well as decorative accents like berries, pinecones, bows, cinnamon sticks and more! All tools will be provided. Nov 29 – Bridgewater Holiday Markets (Bridgewater)

Join Bridgewater Farmers’ Market on the five Sundays before Christmas for their modified Holiday Markets. 25+ vendors (some of your regular farmers’ market vendors and other local makers) will be set up inside and outside the Bridgewater Arena to bring you more local choices for your holiday shopping and entertaining
