It’s that time of year, where we are still enjoying the fall activities but can hear jingle bells ringing off in the distance. What’s happening on the South Shore this weekend, are events that will let you celebrate the end of fall and welcome the next season all at the same time. 🍂❄️

What’s Happening on the South Shore Friday November 1st

Nov 1 – Jimmy Rankin at Lunenburg Opera House

Lunenburg Folk Harbour Society is proud to present Jimmy Rankin at the opera house. The much-loved member of the Rankin Family is the writer of classics such as “Mull River Shuffle”, “North Country”, and “Fare Thee Well Love”. A seasoned performer, Jimmy’s shows are always highly entertaining and memorable. Doors open at 6:30pm | Show starts at 7:30pm. Tickets are $17.50 – ages 25 & under | $35.00 – ages 26 & over and are available here.

Nov 1 – Scary-oke at Firkenstein (Bridgewater)

P&R Karaoke are back at Firkinstein with Scarey-oke! The fun starts at 8pm. Sing to satisfy yourself and dance like nobody is watching! Let’s have some Scary Halloween Karaoke fun, zombies & vampires alike! Prizes for best costume are open to all.

Nov 1 – Christmas Craft Show at Michelin Social Club (Bridgewater)

The 2019 Christmas Craft Show presented by CKBW and Country 100.7 is happening this weekend. With up to 40 crafters on site, full canteen available, door prizes to be won, a great way to start your Holiday shopping. Free Admission, with donations at the door. All donations go to the Rose Fund. Venue has free parking and is wheelchair accessible.

Nov 1 – The Nice Guys live at Saltbox (Mahone Bay)

Saltbox Brewery welcomes back Patrick and James, otherwise known as The Nice Guys. Music starts at 7pm, come on down, enjoy some great music and see if they live up to their name. As always, no cover.

Nov 1 – Found & Lost : Art Show Opening Reception (Lunenburg)

Noble Home Studio & Gallery and Lunenburg Art Gallery are hosting Found and Lost : Art Show, The artwork of Susan Sproule Beavan and her son Mike Dobson. In 2001, mother and son met for the first time 32 years after separation. They had been creating art individually and now together for 14 years. Much of who Susan was has now been lost to Alzheimer’s disease. Hear their incredible story and see a wide range of their art, this weekend. Friday is the opening reception from 7pm-8:30pm.

Nov 1 – Friday Night Fever (Liverpool)

The RCL #38 of Liverpool hosts another Friday Night Fever with The Country Outlaws featuring Jamie Cottar. Music starts at 9pm. $8 admission at the door. There will be door prizes and 50/50 draw. A great way to kick off the weekend.

What’s Happening on Saturday November 2nd

Nov 2 – Pumpkin Dive 2019 (Hubbards)

Attention divers, Torpedo Rays Scuba Adventures is at it again. Head to Fox Point beach and take part in Pumpkin Dive 2019. You can look forward to underwater pumpkin carving (bring your own pumpkin) & Underwater costume contest. Enjoy some delicious BBQ food and try to win some prizes after the dive.

Nov 2 – BUC Brigade Mission Trip 2020 Wearable Art Fundraiser (Bridgewater)

What a great way to spend an a Saturday. Join in at Bridgewater United Church and Design and create a Hand Painted Silk Scarf with the Ancient Japanese Art of Water Marbling in support of the B.U.C. Brigade Mission Trip 2020. Tickets are $40 and includes all you need to design and make a 100% silk scarf. Space is limited. Please call Janice at (902) 523-2799 to reserve a spot and time.

Nov 2 – Try Rug Hooking (Bridgewater)

Do you want to know more about rug hooking? DeBrisay Museum is excited to welcome certified rug hooking instructor, Heather Gordon, and to offer you a chance to Try Rug Hooking. Heather will share her knowledge, bring displays of tools and rugs, as well as demonstrate the tradition of rug hooking. You are also invited to bring a heritage or family hooked rug for identification. $5.00 per person. Seating limited.

Nov 2 – Wine Basics (Hubbards)

Part 1 of 3 Wine Tasting Series at Anchorage House & Cottages in Hubbards, NS. Wine Basics is for those who enjoy wine and would like to know more about this fascinating beverage. Join Sommelier Manfred Vollmer for a fun and non intimidating approach to wine while learning about the main styles of wines, grape varietals, wine labels, ratings and classifications. Tickets are $35 and available through FaceBook.

Nov 2 – Elapultiek, a play (Birchtown)

 Osprey Arts Centre and Black Loyalist Heritage Centre are pleased to welcome Live theatre company “Two Planks and a Passion” from Canning, NS to Birchtown. Presenting “Elapultiek” or “We are looking towards”, a story of land, culture and reconciliation, the play, which will be performed ‘in the round’ featuring an artificial bonfire, focuses on the relationship between an Indigenous woman and a non-Indigenous man as they wrestle with their very different views of the world. Run-time: 75 minutes, Tickets: $22 adults and $7 student available via Osprey Arts Centre.

Nov 2 – The Shakespeare Show (Liverpool)

The Astor Theatre presents The Shakespeare Show. The Shakespeare Show investigates the theory that the plays of William Shakespeare were penned by Edward de Vere, the 17th Earl of Oxford. The Earl sets his own tragedy in motion by using young Will Shakespeare, the boy who holds the horses outside the theatre, as a ‘front’ for his playwriting ventures. Complete with puppets, songs, sword fights and satire, this is bound to be an entertaining event. Tickets are $28 and available via TicketPro.

Nov 2 – Kick off to Christmas (Port Medway)

Start your Holiday shopping at Sea Port Gifts & Treasures and their Kickoff to Christmas Event. Winter merhandise will has arrived, and all purchases will be tax free. Special guest Cyndy Kyle will be coming in to give a demonstration on stencilling techniques at 1pm. Refreshments will be served.

Nov 2 – Yin + Coffee Social (Mahone Bay)

 The Essence Yoga Lifestyle leads their Yin + Coffee Social Saturday at 9am. The Barn is the host for their monthly Yin yoga practices. Join them for an hour of Yoga followed by a relaxing coffee to help kick start your day and connect with your Yoga Community.

Nov 2 – Ghost Town Heroes live at the Tap Room (Liverpool)

The Ghost Town Heroes are excited to play in Liverpool at the new Route 3 Taproom. The band hits the stage at 8pm, come hang out and listen to what they’ve been working on.

Nov 2 – The Hallowe’en Show (Bridgewater)

The Shadow Band is hosting The Hallowe’en Show starting at 8pm. A fun family and all ages outdoor event that celebrates Halloween with music, shadow puppetry, theatre, fire arts and inter-active installations! Enjoy hot cider and Halloween treats! Admission : $10 Adults, $5 Youth & Children 5 and under are FREE! Seating is limited, so please bring your own chair if your can.

Nov 2 – Christmas Open House – April’s Art Studio (Bridgewater)

April Naugler Art invites you to her Christmas Open House. Come enjoy a relaxing shopping experience while sipping some hot apple cider. Nov 2 – Greenfield Pub Night & Dance (Greenfield)

Head to the Greenfield Fire Hall for a Pub Night & Dance. In support of the Greenfield Fire Department. $10 admission includes a Buffet dinner with chicken wings and taco salad. Dance the evening away with The Country Jammers from 8-11. Cash bar.

Nov 3 – Eating for Immunity Workshop (Bridgewater)

Hayley Ewing, Registered Dietitian and Atlantic Superstore (Bridgewater, Nova Scotia) are hosting Eating for Immunity : Food & the Flu this Sunday at 2pm. There are a few things you can do to help keep yourself and your family healthy this flu season. Join Hayley, to learn which foods to include in your diet to get the nutrients your body needs for optimal immune health. We will walk the aisles and finish off with a tasting. Nov 3 – Crib Tournament (New Ross)

The Forties Community Centre is hosting another Crib Tournament. Doors open 12 noon, registration starts 12:30, play starts 1pm. Entry is $20 a team. Canteen will be available, the venue is wheelchair accessible. For more information call 689-2147.

Nov 3 – LAMP Trio (Lunenburg)

Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance is pleased to present LAMP Trio this Sunday at 2:30pm. The LAMP Trio is a dream ensemble of critically-acclaimed artists, all of whom met at Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance. Join in for return of violinist Mark Fewer, cellist Adrian Brendel and pianist Walter Delahunt for a program that will include Felix Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio No. 2 in C minor, Op. 66; a piece by Warsaw-born Mieczyslaw Weinberg and more. Nov 3 – Bridgewater Fire Department Band presents Tradition (Bridgewater)

The 2019 fall concert of the Bridgewater Fire Department Band, “Tradition” takes place this Sunday at 3pm. This years performance features music by Elgar, Holst, Vaughn Williams, Grainger, Purcell — and others. Admission is by donation at the door.

As our wonderful farm markets have closed for the season, we cam make our way to the many Holiday Craft Fairs and Markets that are happening. Here are the markets happening on the South Shore this weekend.
