What’s Happening on the South Shore this Weekend (July 26-28, 2019)

It is the last full weekend in July, can you believe it? It looks like it is going to be another beautiful one to be out enjoying all the great things that are happening on the South Shore.

The South Shore Exhibition – July 26 – 28

The end of July means one thing on the Shore, The South Shore Exhibition. The Big Ex is the largest Agricultural Festival in Nova Scotia and has been in operation 1891 taking place on 42 acres.

Bringing the fun back to the summer by offering good, old-fashioned horse & oxen pulls daily, light horse competitions, show horse events, arts & crafts, 4-H, beef & dairy displays,  poultry displays, petting barn, music and performances from local groups in our Main Building, vendors selling their wares, big name country music Saturday and rock on Friday on our Main Stage. You name, they have it.

Friday July 26

July 26 – Erin Costelo at Petite Rivere Vineyard

Petite Riviere Vineyards once again presents Erin Costelo to showcase her her amazing vocals at the winery! Don’t miss this opportunity to experience this amazingly gifted artist in this intimate setting. Tickets are $30, and are available on Eventbrite.

July 26 – Tomas Kubinek “Miracle Man” at Chester Playhouse

Chester Playhouse Theatre presents Tomáš Kubínek – Miracle Man. A rip-roaring revival of strong-man stunts, couples-counselling, snake-healings, and mass-hypnosis that leaves the audience amazed! The show is at 7:30, tickets are $35 dollars available online. This show is suitable for adult audiences.

July 26 – TGIF Sunset SUP & Kayak Paddle

Cape LaHave Adventures invites you to kick off the weekend with a Sunset Paddle in the LaHave Islands with their amazing guides. Book yourself a paddleboard or kayak tour – whatever you prefer. The cost is $40 + tax, available online. Paddle is from 7-9pm

July 27 – 37th World Tuna Flat Races in Hubbards

The Hubbards Community Waterfront Association presents the 37th World Tuna Flat Races. Head on down to watch teams of four made up of friends and co-workers take part in the races. Keep an eye out for some great costumes as well! It is sure to be a great day on the water.

July 27 – Community Day in Port Mouton

Join the Coastal Queens Place & Port Mouton International Hostel in celebrating their Community Day! Check out the yard sale, plant sale, bake sale and crafts! The event is from 10:00am-2:00pm with a Hot Dog BBQ on site, $1 a dog and free for kids under 7.

July 27 – Blooming Creations! Kids Make Art Day in Chester

The Chester Art Centre presents Blooming Creations, a day for kids to make art! Painting, collage, soap carving and more. Join them for a fun-filled family day at the Chester Art Centre from 10:00am-1:00pm. All ages welcome, accompanied by an adult, $10 per family.

July 27 – Planked Salmon Supper – Greenfield Fire Hall

The Greenfield & District Fire Department is hosting its annual Planked Salmon Supper from 4:00pm-6:00pm. $17 per person, take part in the silent auction, games of chance, BBQ for the kids and more. Eat in or take out is available.

July 27 – Hops’n’Chops Festival at Mateus Bistro

Mateus Bistro is holding it’s 6th annual Hops ‘n’ Chops Festival. Chef Matthew Krizan charcoal roasts a fine local swine, accompanied by Nova Scotia’s Trider’s Craft Beers and some of the best music around. Tickets are $25 at the gate.

July 27 – BernArt be aMazed

BernartBe aMazed” maze is now open daily from 10:00am-6:00pm. Visit this unique and one-of-a-kind maze and find yourself lost in a magical space full of fantasy. With every inch you’ll discover something new and every rock hides its own idea. Truly a unique way to spend your day! Admission is $12 for adults, $10 Kids 4-12 and free for kids 3 and under. July 27 – Chain Pickerel Tournament

The LaHave River Salmon Association is hosting its inaugural Chain Pickerel catch-and-keep tournament as a part of an awareness campaign about invasive species. The tournament runs from 9:00am-1:00pm, BBQ , fillet demo, conservation talks and more. Registration costs $20 per boat team and $10 per shore fishing squad.

July 28 – Celtic Sessions at Saltbox Brewery

Stop by the Saltbox Brewery to enjoy an afternoon of Celtic Sessions! Led by Scottish fiddler Eilidh Buchanan, musicians in & around Mahone Bay come together to play the Saltbox Sunday Sessions. Music and merriment takes place from 2:00pm-4:00pm!

July 28 – Summer Concert Series Lunenburg

The Lunenburg Folk Harbour Society presents the Summer Concert Series at the Lunenburg Bandstand. This weekend enjoy Rube and Rake starting at 2:00pm. Stroll through town ahead of time and pick up a tasty treat to enjoy while listening to the music.

July 28 – Birchbark Canoe Building Workshop at Kejimkujik National Park

Kejimkujik National Park offers you the chance to learn the ancient art of birch bark canoe building with master Mi’kmaw craftsman, Todd Labrador. Relax on the shore of Kejimkujik Lake as Todd shares his story and passion. Then step inside the workshop for a hands-on experience helping in the construction of his latest masterpiece

July 28- Municipality of the District of Lunenburg- Family Fun Day

Bring the whole family this Sunday, July 28, from 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm at Petite Riviere Community Park! They will have a BBQ and plenty of games to enjoy!
