Another weekend coming up, another chance to explore the South Shore. This weekend we have more farm markets and museums opening up, live music, “St. Paddy’s Day in July”, an “Evening in Provence”, virtual fishing derby, rug hooking exhibitions and so much more! What’s Happening on the South Shore Friday July 17th, 2020

July 17 – Chester Farmers & Artisan Market Modified Opening (Chester)

Chester Farmers’ & Artisan Market are excited to announce that they will be opening their outside market starting this Friday, July 17, from 9 am – 12 noon, at the Chester Rink Ball Field. More info and vendor line up to com, just follow their Facebook Page.

July 17 – Wile Carding Museum now Open

The Wile Carding Mill Museum is now open Monday to Friday; 12-4pm. We are open to the public during that 4 hour period with 4 tour blocks for groups of up to 8 people. Staff will be onsite starting Monday July 6th to take bookings by phone (902) 543-8233. Museum staff will continue to provide a warm and friendly atmosphere. What will be different this summer are the extra steps we are taking to keep everyone safe, including the removal of hands-on and interactive displays.

July 17 – Virtual Fishing Derby

District of Lunenburg Recreation is moving the annual Kids Fishing Derby online his year! This contest will run from July 10th until July 20th. The contest is open to participants who are 15 and under. It’s just three easy steps to enter; catch a fish, send a photo to Mariah, and include the size of the fish and age of who caught it. Once you have completed those few steps you will be entered for a chance to win in your age category! Good luck everyone, may the longest fish win!

July 17 – Fort Point Museum now OPEN (LaHave)

The Fort Point Museum is officially open for the 2020 season! Fort Point Museum is maintained and operated by the Lunenburg County Historical Society, whose mission is to conduct research into the history of Lunenburg County with special emphasis on the LaHave River Valley estuaries and its hinterland. Opening hours will be 10am-5pm. In order to ensure the safety of our visitors and staff during this unprecedented time, we will be implementing precautionary measures for our staff and visitors to follow.

July 17 – Basic Kayaking Skills and Safety (Shelburne)

Candlebox Kayaking is offer a Basic Kayaking Skills and Safety course this Friday from 8:30am – 4:30pm. Gain the confidence and skills you need to kayak sheltered waters with others in this fun, safe, structured clinic! From discussing a kayak’s safety features to successfully getting in, launching, and landing, the basics of kayaking will be demystified. Learn how to get a friend back into their kayak in the event of an on water capsize, and much more. The cost is $125 +tax per person, click here to register.

July 17 – Jamie Junger live at St, Marks Place (Middle LaHave)

St. Mark’s Place is pleased to welcome South Shore favourite Jamie Junger this Friday at 7:30pm. St. Mark’s Place social distance seating arrangement is 34 people total. Face masks are mandatory and no beverages are allowed. Email to reserve your seat. Tickets are $20.00

July 17 – Trivia with Adam Aldred (Port Clyde)

Head to River Hills Golf & Country Club this Friday at 7pm for Trivia with Adam Aldred. Gather your friends and book a spot. Due to COVID restrictions there is a limited number of teams they can host, therefore reservations are required and a $5 deposit per team member is needed.

July 17 – Irish Sessions at Lane’s (Liverpool)

July 18 – Seniors Virtual Tea (Barrington)

Barrington Municipal Recreation Department is hosting their Seniors Tea virtually this year! It will be a Facebook LIVE event on July 18th at 12pm.

July 18 – Explore Oak Island Display (Chester)

Calling all Curse of Oak Island TV show fans….. The Explore Oak Island Display at the Chester Train Station opens for the Summer Season this Saturday. July 18 – South Shore Drive In (Mill Village)

South Shore’s Drive-In movie this Saturday July 18th, 2020 will have a Privateer flair to it, “Pirates of the Caribbean“. Blacksmith Will Turner teams up with eccentric pirate “Captain” Jack Sparrow to save his love, the governor’s daughter, from Jack’s former pirate allies, who are now undead!

July 18 – Mahone Bay Fire Department Bingo (Mahone Bay)

Saturday night is Bingo Night at the Mahone Bay Fire Department. It is recommend to reserve your spot due to limited COVID-19 seating. Doors open at 5:00 pm and play starts at 7:00 pm. Come on out to Mahone Bay Fire Dept. bingo for a great time with your friends!

July 18 – Brooklyn Blackmore live at Oak Island Resort (Western Shore)

Come check out the newly renovated Oak Island Resort & Conference Centre as they welcome Brooklyn Blackmore in the Fireside Lounge this Saturday from 8pm-12am. Brooklyn Blackmore is a singer/songwriter with an influence from country and pop genres who delivers captivating lyrics, dynamic vocals, and powerful melodies with a vintage feel.

July 18 – John Cole Porter at Tuna Blue Inn (Hubbards)

July 18 – Dy-Nam-iC live at Saltbox Brewery (Mahone Bay)

Fan favourites Dy-Nam-iC are back at the Saltbox Brewery this Saturday from 7-9pm. Always a fun evening of great music with these guys. Head down early and grab dinner from Curry Express, who will be on site from Noon – 8pm.

July 19 – All Levels Vinyasa Yoga (Bridgewater)

Yoga with Katherine presents an All Levels Vinyasa Yoga Class held in an outdoor setting. Moving with our breath, we will build heat in the body with sun salutations and explore classic hatha yoga postures building on throughout the summer. You must register and pay for class ahead of time to hold your spot. Classes are $10 each or you can purchase a 5 class pass for $45! Payments for classes must be sent through EMT. July 19 – Friends of Sugarfoot Photo Day Fundraiser (Mahone Bay)

Sugarfoot the miniature therapy horse from Hinchinbrook Farm, is coming back to The Barn for a belated 1 year birthday celebration and we couldn’t be more excited! We are raising funds to support Sugarfoot and her colleagues who spend their days helping children and youth with Autism, to give them a safe place to grow and explore new things with the companionship of therapy horses. Bring yourself, friends, family and a $5 donation to have your very own photo with Sugarfoot. We will have a special treat from Sugarfoot to thank you for your support! We’ll be in the peaceful garden behind The Barn.

July 19 – Hooked on Tancook Exhibiton (Big Tancook Island)

The Tancook Rec Centre invites you to their Hooked on Tancook Rug Hooking Exhibition. The exhibiton runs from July 14 – August 8 11:30 – 4:30 (closed on Mondays). We are so pleased with the revived interest in rug hooking, especially when Tancook has always been well known for this art form. We are grateful to the local rug hooking experts who gave generously of their time and shared their talents with the Tancook’s next generation of rug hookers.

July 19 – Celtic Sessions at Saltbox (Mahone Bay)

Celtic Sessions are back at the Saltbox Brewery. From 2-4 join Buchanans House of Music for a lovely Celtic music filled afternoon on the patio!

July 19 – Evening in Provence (Petite Riviere)

Petite Riviere Vineyards invites you to an Evening In Provence! Enjoy the evening at the vineyard with Manouche Jazz stylings of Donald MacLennan and Michael Dalton! Tickets $25 and include one glass of Rose wine and Provence nibbles. Indoor space is limited to 10 groups of two (for distancing), and we will be offering outdoor seating, weather permitting, so book early to get a seat!
