What’s Happening on the South Shore this Weekend (Dec 13-15, 2019)

With less than two weeks until Christmas Day, we are truly in the midst of the holiday season. As we look to celebrate with our friends and family, there are plenty of events happening on the South Shore this weekend, that may be the perfect way to get together. Dec 13 – Larry’s Art Exhibition “For the Love of Horses and Veterans” (Mahone Bay)

The Barn in Mahone Bay invites you to come in for a coffee enjoy their latest art installation “For the Love of Horses and Veterans“. Shop a collection of beautiful original oil paintings, by Larry Bergeron, a veteran doing some amazing work with horses. Find a special gift for a horse lover this Christmas.

Dec 13 – The GameChangers at the Port Grocer (Port Medway)

The GameChangers are making their first appearance at The Port Grocer this Friday! Come on out to Port Medway for some great dining and dancing and the Groove-Blues music of the GameChangers.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dec 13 – Lennie Gallant (Mahone Bay)

Musique Royale presents an evening of seasonal music with Lennie Gallant at Cecilia’s Retreat. The concert is named after the artist’s much loved song, ‘The Innkeeper’. The concert will feature original Christmas songs penned by the prolific artist and Lennie will be joined by musicians Patricia Richard and Jeremy Gallant. Tickets are $35, admission by advance reservation, please email Barbara Butler.

Dec 13 – Christmas Random Act of Kindness Event (Lunenburg)

The Lunenburg Friendly Faces, a Random Act of Kindess Group, invites you join in their Christmas RAK evening. Meeting to spread kindness one Friday a month 6:30pm at St. John’s Anglican Parish Hall, past RAK events included making 20 Police Care Kits for local RCMP and Thank You letters for our troops. All ages are welcome, children must be accompanied by an adult. A wonderful way to spend an evening giving back and enjoying the spirit of the season.

Dec 13 – The Shepherd”s Play (Blockhouse)

The Shepherds’ Play is a medieval mystery play that combines a cappella singing, gentle humour and reverence to tell the story of the first Christmas and the simple shepherds who witnessed it. Performed by parents, alumni, and friends of the South Shore Waldorf School and suitable for the whole family. Admission by donation. New this year – two performances. Thursday Dec 12 at the South Shore Waldorf School and Friday Dec 13 at Central United Church in Lunenburg.

Dec 13 – A Christmas Carol (Liverpool)

The Astor Theatre presents John. D. Huston as Charles Dickens in “A Christmas Carol“. For a quarter century, this astonishing tour-de-force presentation has been described as “mesmerizing,” “powerful”⁣ and “Christmas magic” by reviewers across the country.⁣ Mr. Dickens’ musical guest will be award-winning singer and Liverpool’s own Ashley-Rose Goodwin, performing Dickensian carols. Tickets are $28 for adults $10 for students (id required), available via TicketPro.

Dec 13 – Duo Sonic at King Street Beer Company

Gordie and Rosie Duggan make up DuoSonic, a live (and lively) music duo, performing an eclectic mix of music, from the 1950-today! With guitar, bass, electronic drums, and a synthesizer they are able to deliver a full band sound in one small package! Come on down to King Street Beer Company to enjoy their sound and Saltbox beer! Music starts at 8pm and as always no cover!

Dec 14 – Breakfast with Santa (Bridgewater)

Bucks Home Building Centre invites you to have Breakfast with Santa, this Saturday from 9am-12noon. Not only can you enjoy a complimentary breakfast with Santa, you can have your picture taken with Santa in his sleigh! Our photographer Amy will be onsite to photograph and print photos with a few different options for you, she will be accepting cash only.

Dec 14 – Lunenburg Rotary Club Flea Market (Lunenburg)

The Lunenburg Rotary Club is hosting a Flea Market this Saturday from 9am-12noon. Head to the Lunenburg Community Centre and find some great gifts including antiques, collectibles, sports/movie memorabilia, gas/oil advertising, artwork, antique fishing gear, lumps of coal (for those on your naughty list) and a bit of everything else.

Dec 14 – Old Town Craft Show

The Lunenburg School of Arts is hosting the Old Town Craft Show this Saturday from 12noon- 4pm. Discover a collection of talented local makers selling their goods at the Lunenburg School of the Arts. Come Shop, Sip & Play!

Dec 14 – Privateers Christmas Market (Liverpool)

Find all of your favourite Privateer Farmers’ Market vendors along with some new vendors, and great music at their Christmas Market!. Stock up on gifts, food for all your hosting needs, and goodies to last all Christmas long.

Dec 14 – Christmas Holiday Homes Tour (Liverpool)

Privateer Days Commission is proud to present the 23rd annual Christmas Holiday Home Tour on Saturday from 1pm to 4pm. Five Beautiful Homes for you to enjoy with hosts and greeters in period costume look forward to welcoming you into their home. Tickets are available at Queens County Museum or Five Girls Baking in Liverpool, $20 per person.

Dec 14 – Have a Yarn Open House & Christmas Knitting Day (Mahone Bay)

Join Have a Yarn for their annual Open House and Christmas Knitting Day! We’ll have one-day in-store specials and lots of gift ideas and quick knits that you can whip up in time for Christmas. Stressing about finishing your gift knitting? Bring your knitting, plan to stay and they’ll provide the hot apple cider and moral support.

Dec 14 – Free Gift Wrapping (Bridgewater)

Finding it a little hard to get your wrapping done this holiday season? St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church if offering to do it for you! Visit on Saturday between 1pm-5pm, you bring the gifts and they’ll do the rest.

Dec 14 – Seafood Chowder Supper (Hunts Point)

The Hunts Point Community Hall is holding a Seafood Supper this Saturday. Head over between 4pm-6pm for Chowder, rolls, crackers and a variety of desserts. Adults $12 Children $6, take out is available, all proceeds go towards the Community Hall.

Dec 14 – A King’s Christmas (Lunenburg)

Musique Royale is delighted to announce the University of King’s College Chapel Choir will return to Lunenburg with their 12th annual feast of seasonal song and story, under the direction of five-time Grammy award winner Paul Halley. Each year features carols from the mediaeval to the modern, and seasonal readings selected by this years special guest narrator, Nova Scotia’s own Old Man Luedecke. Tickets are $30 ($25 advance). Students $10 at the door. Advance tickets are available at Shop on the Corner, and online.

Dec 14 – “Home for the Holiday” Concert (Liverpool)

The Queens County Community Choir invites you to their “Home for the Holidays” Concert. An evening of seasonal song at the Trinity United Church, the performance starts at 7pm.

Dec 14 – Scott Colp live at King Street Beer Co. (Bridgewater)

Scott Colp returns to King Street Beer Co. for an evening of good tunes and good beer. A singer/songwriter from Lunenburg County, Scott sings original songs and covers of Tom Petty, The Stones, The Beatles and more! As always No Cover!

Dec 14 – Amanda Riley Live (Chester)

Chester Legion welcomes Amanda Riley this Saturday from 9pm-1am. Head down for evening with friends and great music. This is a 19+ event.

Dec 14 – 5th Annual Ugly Christmas Sweater Party (New Germany)

The New Germany Legion hosts it’s 5th Annual Ugly Christmas Sweater Party this Saturday. The fun starts at 9pm with entertainment provided by DJ Danimal, cash bar and prizes for “best” sweater. Tickets are $10 (Members get in Free) and can be purchased at the Legion during regular business hours.

What’s Happening on Sunday December 15th, 2019

Dec 15 – Christmas Cookies & Egg Nog Ride (Mahone Bay)

Join Sweet Ride Cycling for their annual Christmas Cookies & Eggnog Ride on this Sunday at 9am. Explore the local single track trails and rail trail and then return to the shop at 11am for cookies and eggnog, hot chocolate. As a special bonus, those attending will receive a special shopping discounts too. This ride will accommodate beginners as well as experienced riders with two different group options. Dec 15 – Advent Labyrinth (Blockhouse)

As the Advent season is upon us, The South Shore Waldorf School invites people of all faith traditions & spiritual backgrounds to walk their Advent Labyrinth. A labyrinth is a single path that has been used as a walking meditation for prayer and reflection since ancient times. A chance for you to reflect on the meaning of this sacred season and what is emerging in your life as you walk the labyrinth. Each Sunday of Advent, Please note: this event is open to adults only.

Dec 15 – Christmas Musical Program (Fox Point)

Fox Point Seventh-Day Adventist Church invites you to their annual Christmas Musical Program this Saturday and Sunday at 7pm. Come celebrate with us as they present the Christmas story through both words and music. There will be festive refreshments available following the program.

Dec 15 – Free Public Skate with the Lumberjacks (Bridgewater)

The South Shore Lumberjacks are holding a Free Public Skate at the LCLC this Sunday at 5:30pm. The team will be on hand to skate a few laps with, to sign autographs and to take pictures. A donation of cash or non-pershable food item is requested in lieu of admission. There will be a raffle and a few other fund raising activities, and maybe even a 50-50 draw, all to benefit the Bridgewater Interchurch Food Bank. There will be some refreshments on hand provided by Tim Hortons and there will be some great door prizes and giveaways.

Dec 15 – “It’s a Wonderful Life” Live Reading (Liverpool)

The Winds of Change Dramatic Society has set their latest play reading this Sunday. The play: It’s a Wonderful Life! The Society welcomes folks that are interested to come out and perform as part of the play or come enjoy the performance. It all takes place this Sunday from 2-5 pm, at the Astor Theatre in the media room.
