What’s Happening on the South Shore this Weekend (April 2-4, 2021)

It’s Easter weekend, and unlike last year, we are able to gather with our family and friends in a safe fashion to celebrate. The South Shore has plenty of fun events planned to help enjoy the holiday. Let’s take a look at what’s happening on the South Shore this weekend.

What’s Happening on the Friday April 2nd, 2021

Apr 2 – Mixed Doubles Curling Drop In (Barrington)

This Friday at 7 pm, come out to Barrington Curling Club and try Mixed Doubles Curling, an exciting new curling format. Just two players on a team and 5 thrown rocks. The games are quick and it’s always so much fun. Drop in session will last about two hours. Snacks provided after curling. Clean footwear carried in (not worn in from outside) and warm layered clothing is all you need. Sneakers or running shoes are best. All other needed equipment and instruction is available. Covid-19 protocols will be in place. Face masks are required in the club lounge, unless seated and consuming food or beverage, and are recommended but not required on the ice.

Apr 2 – Take a Veteran Fishing : Fishing Fridays (Your Favourite Fishing Hole)

Veteran’s Memorial Medical Centre Society‘s Fishing Fridays are back starting this Friday. Spring fishing season opens on April 1st, why not celebrate by taking a Veteran Fishing? The concept is that Anybody can register here and take a local Canadian Forces Member or Veteran Fishing on Fridays. The Member or Veteran need not be injured as this is meant to include and Thank all Service Members and Veterans for their Service and Sacrifice. Not only will Fishing Fridays be a fundraiser for the VMMCS it will be a way of connecting Veterans to each other in a peaceful setting. Have fun and Tight Lines.

Apr 2 – Waterworks on Paper Art Exhibit (Lunenburg)

The Lunenburg Art Gallery Society is hosting Waterworks on Paper : A Collaborative Exhibition starting this Friday through May 1. The exhibition is a tribute to Edward Porter, the founder of the Mahone Bay Printmakers. Featuring works from both the Mahone Bay Printmakers and The Ottawa Gatineau Printmaker’s Connective all inspired by the theme of water. The gallery is open Thursday-Sunday Noon-5pm. COVID protocols in place.

Apr 2 – BIPOC Youth Cafe Poetry Night with Deirdre Lee (Mahone Bay)

BIPOCSS Youth Cafe is a drop in for Black, Indigenous, People of Colour & Queer/2SLGBTQ+ youth 14 and up at The Biscuit Eater Cafe & Books in Mahone Bay! This Friday, we have a special guest Deirdre Lee joining us to share some of her poetry, talk about poeming & writing poems of our own. Apr 2 – Steve Dicks with Danny Pink live at FirkenStein Brewing (Bridgewater)

Come out to FirkenStein Brewing this Friday at 8pm for a entertaining evening of some great east coast/Canadian music with Steve Dicks and Danny Pink. They will also be letting some originals free for the first time as well , don’t miss it

What’s Happening on the South Shore Saturday April 3rd, 2021

Apr 3 – Easter Egg Day at Nova Scotia Building Supplies (Blockhouse)

Join Nova Scotia Building Supplies (Blockhouse) for Easter Egg Day this Saturday – They’ll be giving out eggs filled with chocolate and a few have bonus prizes hidden in them! Prizes include gift certificates to Mastermind Toys, Cineplex and more! They will also have a selection of mini puzzles for those who don’t want anything edible. Eggs/puzzles are available first come, first serve, to kids that stop by (ages 4-12, accompanied by a parent/guardian). Watch the event page this week for more details and fun Easter activities!

Apr 3 – South Shore Flea Market (Lunenburg)

Rotary Lunenburg is hosting another South Shore Flea Market this Saturday from 9am-Noon. Not only will you find small treasures while mingling safely with friends and neighbours, your $1 admission fee is supporting many of the great Rotary initiatives in our community. COVID-19 protocols are in place to keep everyone safe and healthy.

Apr 3 – Old Fashioned Easter in the Park (Barrington)

Join the Barrington Leisure Park Association for their nest fundraiser, Old Fashioned Easter in the Park! Stop in for an egg hunt, hot dog/marshmallow roast, some Easter goodies, or just to show your support by putting a donation in the bucket! $2.00 per child for egg hunt (collect 10 eggs), Hot dogs $1.50, Water $1.00 and there may also be cookies and other goodies for sale at various prices. Covid rules will apply

Apr 3 – Public Skating at the LCLC (Bridgewater)

The LCLC is still has it’s public skate scheduled for this Saturday from 5-6:15pm. Grab the family, your bubble friends and hit the ice. A great way to work up an appetite for Easter dinner, and maybe a few chocolate eggs too!

Apr 3 – Recreational Swim and Inflatable Obstacle Course at the LCLC (Bridgewater)

If you prefer to get in the water, rather than skate on it, the LCLC Pool has a number of Recreational Swim Times this Saturday, including 7:30am-12Noon and 6-7pm. As well you can check out the new Inflatable Obstacle Course from 1:30-5pm. Apr 3 – Introduction to Longsword (LaHave)

Medieval Swordplay Canada is hosting a Italian Medieaval Longsword Training workshop this weekend, 3-4:30 pm. This class is open to beginners, must be 18+Registration in advance holds your spot and is nonrefundable. Spaces limited. Training Swords provided. Registration by e-transfer at medievalswordplaycanada@gmail.com

Apr 3 – Introduction to Irish Stick Fighting (LaHave)

Medieval Swordplay Canada hosts Irish Stick Fighting workshop this weekend from 5-6:30pm. Includes learning about Irish Martial Arts, Sword, Staff, Bare Knuckle. This class is for new members, must be 18yo+. Cost is $20/person prepay via e-transfer to medievalswordplaycanada@gmail.com Registration is nonrefundable as it holds your spot. Spaces limited. Apr 3 – Steve Dicks live at The Nosy Crow (Mahone Bay)

Live music is back at the Nosy Crow Bites & Brews this Saturday as they welcome Steve Dicks to the patio. Joined by Danny Pink, Steve will be playing from 12-3pm, head down for some good food and music.

Apr 3 – Kristen Martell live at Chester’s Cafe (Chester)

ECMA nominated Kristen Martell heads to Chester’s Cafe this Saturday. Join her from 5:30-7pm for some great music, drinks, treats and cozy atmosphere.

Apr 3 – Shawn Hebb live at Osprey Nest Public House (Petite Riviere)

Osprey Nest Public House welcomes back fan favourite Shawn Hebb this Saturday from 6-9pm. Head over and hang out on the patio, enjoy good food, and great music!

Apr 3 – Open MIC Night at FirkenStein Brewing (Bridgewater)

Ed Halverson is back to host another Open Mic Night at FirkenStein Brewing. Head over this Saturday from 8-11pm, bring your bubble, your setlist and take the stage!

Apr 3 – Steve Dicks live at King Street Beer (Bridgewater)

Steve Dicks, with special guest Danny Pink, take the stage at King Street Beer this Saturday at 8pm. Join them for a night of originals and covers with a heavy focus on east coast music & inspiration.

What’s Happening on the South Shore Sunday April 4th, 2021

Apr 4 – Storybook Trail (Shelburne)

Shelburne Municipal Recreation & Parks Department are excited to pilot their first Storybook Trail next week!! Storybook Trail-Easter Edition happening April 3rd-8th along the Roseway River Trail. A storybook trail is a fun way to combine reading and physical activity. Read a book as you walk the trail. There may be a few egg-stra surprises along the trail too!

Apr 4 – Easter Skates at the Lunenburg Arena (Lunenburg)

Hop on over to the Lunenburg Arena for Easter Weekend fun! There’s a special POP UP Easter SKATE this Saturday evening (5:30pm-6:45pm). Have some Easter exercise before eating all the tasty treats!

Apr 4 – Sunday Ceilidhs at King Street Beer (Bridgewater)

King Street Beer Co. invites you to have a local brew, practice your social distancing, and enjoy traditional tunes with the South Shore Pipe and Drum Band. Join them for this Sunday’s Ceilidh from 2-4pm. Admission is free, Tapadh leat!
