What’s Happening on the South Shore November 22 – 24, 2019

Tis the season for holiday markets, tree lightings and parades that will definitely get you into the festive spirit. Aside from all the seasonal festivities you will find hockey games, pop-up archeological museums, cheese making courses, fat bike rides, live music and yes, even schnitzel dinners. We can definitely say that there is something happening on the South Shore for everyone this weekend.

Nov 22 – Christmas at the Causeway (Barrington)

Barrington’s Christmas at the Causeway is well underway with numerous events happening until December 14th. Christmas at the Causeway is a celebration of both Christmas and a kick off for our Lobster Season. Come visit and see our giant Lobster Trap Christmas Tree! Check out the full Facebook Event for all the events happening including Holiday House Tours, craft markets, paint nights and parades.

Nov 22 – Country Christmas Market (Upper Northfield)

Join Unbridled and friends for their annual Christmas Market. Find a little something for everyone on your Christmas list while shopping local. While you are browsing, enjoy some simple cafe fare and hot chocolate by an outdoor campfire to keep your spirits warm.

Nov 22 – The Nice Guys live at Bayport Pub (Bayport)

The Bayport Pub welcomes The Nice Guys on Friday evening. Head down for an evening of great food and great music. Playing a mix of originals and covers The Nice Guys will have you singing along in between bites.

Nov 22 – Schnitzel Week (Lunenburg)

Rissers Social House located in the Lunenburg Arms Hotel is hosting Schnitzel Weeks over the next few Fridays. Join them for some authentic German schnitzel, skillfully prepared by Chef Konrad. A delicious way to start the weekend off right.

Nov 22 – Holiday Movie Night for Kids 5-11 (Bridgewater)

Join PC Cooking School & your In-Store Dietitian Hayley for Holiday Cooking & Movie Night! Kids will make festive snacks to enjoy while watching a fun Holiday Movie! Event runs from 6-8:30pm for kids aged 5-11. The menu Quesadilla Reindeers & Gingerbread Cookies while enjoying the 2018 animated “The Grinch”. Cost: $20 +tax. Nov 22 – Fat Bike Pizza Ride (Mahone Bay)

Sweet Ride Cycling brings back the Friday Night Fat Bike Pizza Ride. The kick off event for their Social Rides, riders will be leaving Sweet Ride Cycling at 6pm, riding along the Bay to Bay Trail to Lunenburg for Pizza at J3. Make the return trip to Mahone Bay in time to catch last call at Saltbox Brewery! Bring your own fat bike or rent one at a special event rate. You will need a high-powered front light (250 lumin minimum),a rear flashing light and your pizza and beer money! Contact Sweet Ride Cycling to book in advance, check out the menu at J3 pizza, as they will pre-order before you head out.

Nov 22 – Paint Night (Milton)

Grab a friend, grab a drink and join Paint Paradise at the Milton Community Association from 6:30-9pm for a Paint Party. A local artist will be guiding you step by step, inspiring and encouraging your creative flow while you paint your very own masterpiece. Tickets includes your supplies including a 16×20 canvas, palette of paint, brushes and more. Limited number of seats available and tickets must be purchased before the event.

Nov 22 – Joe Murphy live at the Banker (Lunenburg)

Join the crowd at the Grand Banker Bar & Grill as they welcome Maritime Blues Legend Joe Murphy, who’s back at the Banker for another good time. Music starts at 9pm, no cover. Head down early for a quick bite before the show.

Nov 22 – Bonbon Vodou (Cookville)

Association du Centre Communautaire de la Rive-Sud and the South Shore Community Centre is proud to present Bonbon Vodou this Friday from 7pm-9pm. Bonbon Vodou is the meeting of Oriane Lacaille and JereM., two soft and sunny voices that agree like a dream. This duo shapes a song out of place and unpredictable, diverted by Africa and Reunion playing instruments gleaned from traveling, but also a motley box of everyday objects. Nov 23 – Festival of Trees & Dickensville (Liverpool)

This Saturday marks the official opening of the Festival of Trees & Dickensville at the Queens County Museum. Decked out this year in holiday splendor, discover over 30 small to large decorated trees, as well as George Mitchell’s amazing Dickensville Christmas Village, featuring over 80 houses and buildings of the Charles Dickens era. Take time to enjoy a cup of hot mulled cider as you stroll through this magical Christmas wonderland that is sure to bring the child out in you. The Festival of Trees & Dickensville will be in place until December 23, 2019, Mon-Sat 9am-5pm and Sunday 1pm-5pm. Admission is Free

Nov 23 – Artful Opportunities for Autism Individuals (Bridgewater)

Artful Opportunities is a free program for individuals with autism. Autism Nova Scotia, South Shore Chapter along with DesBrisay Museum, are holding a Wreath Making workshop Saturday at 11am for ages 15 and up. Limited space. Nov 23 – A Christmas Toy Drive (Mahone Bay)

Join Tummy to Mummy Kids Shop for a special fundraiser for the IWK Toy Drive. They will be sampling Peace by Chocolate and donating a portion of the proceeds to the IWK toy drive which delivers toys and gift cards to patients and their families over the holidays. They’ll also be giving away free cookies and hot chocolate. Can’t make it out? You can drop off any donations of new, unwrapped toys and gift cards for the toy drive until November 30th.

Nov 23 – Christmas at the Barn (Hubbards)

Christmas at the Barn in Hubbards kicks off this weekend. Over 40 local vendors will be bringing their best for your Christmas list. Their markets will have fresh produce, meats, eggs, cheese, wine, spirits, soaps, ornaments, pottery, cards, salts, wood carvings, wreaths, beer, spirits, hats, authors, wood work, jewelry and more. Nov 23 – Christmas Craft Show (Port Mouton)

Coastal Queen’s Place & Port Mouton International Hostel is hosting it’s annual Christmas Craft Show this Saturday from 10am-4pm. Local baked goods and homemade crafts available to start checking off your Christmas lists. Get a good start to the day by going to the Community Breakfast form 8am-11am at the West Queens Rec. Centre.

Nov 23 – Pop-Up Museum (Barrington)

What an interesting way to spend an afternoon! Presented by Nova Scotia Museum, join archaeologists, Dr. Katie Cottreau-Robins and Vanessa Smith for a pop up museum about last summer’s archaeology dig at Fort Saint-Louis. This Saturday at the Barrington Municipal Administrative Building from 1pm to 3pm.

Nov 23 – The 24th Holly & Ivy Fair (Blockhouse)

Experience the magic of the Season at the South Shore Waldorf School 24th Annual Holly & Ivy Fair! Featuring festive activities for children, including candle dipping, a Children’s Market and a holiday puppet show by Monika Wildemann of Wee Giant Theatre. Families can shop for locally made gifts at our unique craft market and enjoy homemade food and live music at the Holiday Café. Admission to the Holly & Ivy Fair is free. Tickets for food and activities can be purchased at the door.

Nov 23 – Christmas Craft Show and Penny Auction (Conquerall Bank)

Conquerall Bank Fire Department is hosting it’s annual Christmas Craft/Vendor Show and Penny Auction. Head out to support the Department and start, or finish your holiday shopping. Raffle tickets area also being sold on items/gift certificates donated from local businesses and more!!

Nov 23 – Christmas Bazaar (Blandford)

The Saint Barnabas Ladies Guild sponsors a Christmas Bazaar this Saturday at the Blandford Community Centre. Free admission to browser the Bake tables, handwork, fudge, raffle basket and more! Lunch of Chili or Soup will be available for purchase as well.

Nov 23 – Penny Auction (Lahave)

LaHave & District Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary is hosting a fundraiser Penny Auction this Saturday. Tickets sold between 10:30am-1:30pm with draws beginning at 1:30pm. 50/50 draw will be happening and the canteen will be available.

Nov 23 – Christmas Gift Gallery (Liverpool)

The Christmas Gifts Gallery Artisans and Crafters Sale is happening this Saturday and next. A showcase and sale of wonderful products, retail and handmade, by crafts people, artisans, from small communities on the South Shore. This event is part of the Annual Christmas On The Mersey

Nov 23 – Dusty Keleher Live (Lunenburg)

Ametora Supply is proud to be hosting Dusty Keleher this Saturday. Halifax’s folk legend Dusty Keleher writes songs that tell a good story and searches out gems from the past that do the same. Simply put, roots/traditional music that takes its cue from ancient Irish ballads to songs from the folk and folk/rock canon. Tickets are $10 at the door, this show is all ages. Doors open at 6pm, music starts at 7pm.

Nov 23 – The Strange Valentines (Bridgewater)

Keep the weekend going and check out Acoustic folk/rock duo The Strange Valentines. Making their debut at The King Street Beer Company this weekend, the music starts at 7pm, and as always there is no cover.

Nov 23 – Shelburne Christmas Craft Show

The Shelburne Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxilary is hosting their annual Christmas Craft Sale. Free admission, canteen available and shopping is Tax Free!

Nov 23 – Heather Rankin (Lunenburg)

Lunenburg Folk Harbour Society is pleased to present Heather Rankin live in concert this Saturday. Another member of the beloved Rankin family, Heather Rankin returns to a Folk Harbour stage with her signature blend of humour, sparkling stage presence, and crystal-clear vocals. Nov 23 – Musical Friends Benefit (Chester)

Head to St.Stephen’s Anglican Church in Chester for a Musical Friends Benefit Concert. An evening of music with the Chester Brass Band and the Studio Singers in support of the Musical Friends program in Chester.

Nov 23 – Festival of Lights Christmas Parade (Barrington Passage)

The unofficial start to the holiday season, the Christmas Parade. Barrington and Area Chamber of Commerce invites you to bundle up and head out to enjoy this years Festival of Lights Christmas Parade. Parade starts at 7pm, runs from TL Swaine Ltd to Causeway Interiors.

Nov 23 – The Black Line live at the Cellar (Liverpool)

Route 3 Cellar Taproom & Grill invite you to check out The Black Line – a new band in the Kentville area. Currently, the band play cover songs of classic and modern rock. They even take requests. $5 cover, show starts at 9pm.

Nov 24 – Liverpool Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary Christmas Craft Sale

Head to the Liverpool Fire Hall on Sunday from 10am – 2pm for the Ladies Auxiliary Christmas Craft Sale. Browse tables of local bakers, makers and crafters. Admission is $2, and be entered to win a $100 Best Western Gift Card. As well, a canteen will be available.

Nov 24 – 2019 Christmas Markets at the LCLC (Bridgewater)

This Sunday is the first of five Christmas Markets at the Lunenburg Coutny Lifestyle Centre. Expect to find more vendors than ever before, and a larger variety of products, to help you with your Christmas shopping and holiday entertaining. The market is proud of it’s focus on local farmers, and local bakers, crafters and artisans.

Nov 24 – Introduction to Cheese Making – Soft Cheese (Mahone Bay)

 Curd Girl and Sweetwood Farm host an Introduction to Cheese Making workshop this Sunday. This is their most popular class and is a fun and informative day with a farmer and cheese maker from a working dairy farm. You will a selection of fresh cheeses (as many as 4 different soft cheeses) which you will each take home, some to finish in your own special way. There will be a semi-formal cheese tasting session with a complimentary cheese board – over a casual potluck lunch. The class costs $110 +HST ($126.50). Registration requires payment in full. Nov 24 – Mustangs Hockey (Lunenburg)

Sunday afternoon hockey is happening on the South Shore this weekend at the LCLC! The UPS Store South Shore Mustangs host a rare Sunday afternoon NSMMHL game as they play the Cape Breton West Islanders in the 2nd game of their weekend series. Puck drops at 12 noon. Admission: Adults: $7, Seniors $5, Students $3, Under 12 and Mustang Alumni FREE.

Nov 24 – Good Vibrations Drumming Group (Lunenburg)

The Second Story Women’s Centre invites you to an afternoon with Good Vibrations Drumming Group. No experience needed! Drumming is proven to help reduce stress and anxiety, increase energy levels and mobility, form friendships, and provide a lot of fun!! Drums are provided & personal drums are welcome. As always, all of their programs and services are free!

Nov 24 – Holiday Card Workshop With Paper Lili Designs (Mahone Bay)

Nov 24 – Rocko & Nakota “Tales from the Land” (Liverpool)

The Astor Theatre is proud to present Rocko & Nakota Tales from the Land. Touted as “First Nations Storytelling at it’s finest” (CBC Winnipeg), meet Nakota, a young boy who is trying to write the greatest story ever. One day, his grandfather, 103-year-old Rocko, comes over for a visit. Next thing Nakota knows, he is whisked away into a world of stories that are right below his feet. This show explores the interplay between stories of the present against the long forgotten stories of the past. Tickets are $28, available here.
