The South Shore Fish Shack- Lunch with a View

There’s nothing like a beautiful warm summer day, and planning a road trip, or a day out exploring our own towns and communities. And when it comes to summer and grabbing a bite, there is often one thing on people’s minds…where to get good fish and chips. If you haven’t been yet, you have to check out The South Shore Fish Shack in Lunenburg, where they serve up some of the best fish and chips around.

Located at 108 Montague St in Lunenburg, the South Shore Fish Shack is owned and operated by Martin and Sylvie Ruiz-Salvador, the husband and wife team behind the Salt Shaker Deli, The Beach Pea Kitchen & Bar, The Half Shell Oyster Bar. They have definitely put Lunenburg on the map as a food destination, enjoyed by visitors and locals alike.

Don’t be deterred by a line-up outside. Every summer, you will typically notice a line up of people outside of The Fish Shack. This year they are only allowing one person/group in at a time to order, however the line moves quickly and it is well worth the any small wait.

Once your order is placed, you are given a pager that will light up and vibrate when your food is ready. Then you just grab it at the pick-up window and you’re all set.

The South Shore Fish Shack focuses on fresh, local seafood and that’s what people line up for. Haddock, scallops, clams and of course lobster, are all on the menu and served up in a classic basket with a red checkered liner.

While there is some indoor seating, unless it’s raining, everyone sits outside. There are outdoor tables right next to the Fish Shack and also a deck below, all with the amazing view of the Lunenburg harbour.

We try to get there several times a summer, just for the fish and chips. The fish is done perfectly, the pieces are huge and the fries are delicious as well. It’s definitely one of our favourites.

Have you been to The South Shore Fish Shack? Do you go for the fish and chips or another classic on the menu? Leave a comment and let us know.
