South Shore Farmers Markets- Chester Farmers and Artisan Market

We are so fortunate here on the South Shore to have farmers markets in many of our towns and communities. For a lot of people on the South Shore it has become part of their weekly routine to stop at the local market, chat with the growers and vendors and come home with their baskets and bags full. The Chester Farmers and Artisan Market is no exception, with locals and tourists frequenting this busy Friday market.

The market runs seasonally in front of the old Railway Station, now Station 20 – 20 Smith Road, every Friday from 9am to 1pm, rain or shine, through to October 6th .

Selecting your homemade bread or treats for the week…is a joy…but also dangerous! 😉 So many delicious and beautiful items to choose from. Luckily, there are usually fresh fruits and vegetables a few tables down to balance things out.

The Chester Farmers and Artisan Market has such a wide array of goods that you could pick up everything you need for the week. This used to be the way people shopped and in some countries, it still is. It’s beautiful and we are so fortunate to have so many producers and makers here.

I love picking up my lunch when I’m visiting a local farmers market. This lovely lady from Indus Cuisine,  seemed to remember me from my last visit to the Lunenburg Farmers Market. Or else she just has a way of making everyone feel like a friend. 😉 She sells Indian and Pakistani home cooked meals and snacks. If she is there…I am buying something from her….or her husband.  Their samosas are delicious!

If I can,  I treat myself to some fresh flowers at local markets. They are usually beautiful and a make your home feel warm and welcoming. Love it!

The Chester Farmers and Artisan Market is a seasonal market running each  Friday at the Chester Train Station, 20 Smith Road from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm (rain or shine). Starting in May, the market this year is continuing until October 5th. With live music, picnic tables and a community tent, this farmers market offers more than just a chance to buy goods. It’s a place to chat and connect with your neighbours or welcome visitors to the area. That is the joy in farmers markets and this is one does a good job of it.

The day we went, my daughter and I picked up a few items then proceeded to the beautiful waterfront and had a little picnic. It was lovely and definitely made our market trip more memorable.
