What’s Happening on the South Shore this Weekend (July 5 – 7, 2019)

It’s the first full weekend of July, and it looks to be a beautiful one weather wise. Yes, technically it has been Summer since June 21st, but this is the weekend that always feels like the official start of the season, and boy does the South Shore have a ton of things happening to help kick it off right. Let’s check out what’s happening on the South Shore this weekend.

What’s Happening on the South Shore Friday July 5th

Friday July 5 – Fresh Air Films : Shipyards Landing

The Town of Bridgewater is kicking off the 2019 Fresh Air Films season with “Grease”.  Movies are free, though donations are appreciated to enable the continuation of this great event. Movies start at dusk, make sure to bring your lawn chairs or blankets, snacks and bug spray! Starting the weekend off by watching family friendly movies under the stars sounds good to me. 

July 5- Ocean Blue Jazz Quartet with special guest Patricia Watson- St.Mark’s Place, Middle Lahave

Ocean Blue Jazz Quartet – Jazz – Ted Blackbourn, piano, Tobias Beale, saxophone/flute – Judy Johnson, bass – Gerry Johnson, drums and special guest Patricia Watson, vocals – 7:30-9:30pm – Tickets $20.00 at the door

July 6 – 7 Mahone Bay Home and Garden Tour

This annual, self-guided Mahone Bay Home and Garden Tour, is highly anticipated every summer. Tour four beautiful homes and three lovely gardens dotted throughout Mahone Bay and area. Tickets are $25 per person, available at Kinburn Pharmasave and Mahone Bay Museum, as well as online or over the phone at (902) 624-6263. Your ticket is valid for both dates, between 10am – 4pm, allowing you to take your time and truly enjoy.

July 6 – “At the Farm” Wile Carding Mill Museum

The Wile Carding Mill Museum is celebrating 45 years with an Open House showcasing their farming and industrial heritage. Visit between 1pm – 4pm, admission is free and activities are perfect for the whole family.

The afternoon includes childrens activities, baby lambs (lambs from 1pm-2pm only), heritage demonstrations, including Lunenburg County Fibre Association Skirt and Toss, and cake!  

July 6- Family Hike- MARC in Dayspring

Join the MODL staff and check out the MARC trails! There will be beautiful sights to see including multiple views of the LaHave River! We will meet in the MARC parking lot at 9:30 am on Saturday, July 6.

July 6- The Donald MacLennan & Duane Andrews Quintette – Petite Riviere Winery

Picture yourself in France as you listen to the jazz manouche-swing stylings of this amazing Quintet! Sip on some delicious wine and enjoy some Provence inspired appetizers.

July 6 – Hubbards Barn and Community Park Food Truck Rally

The 5th annual Hubbards Barn Association Food Truck Rally is sure to have something for everyone. Stop in between 4pm – 8pm and discover everything from Jamaican fare, to curries, to wood fired grilled goodies, and sweet treats to end your meal. The Barn will be open for seating, live music from John Cole Porter and a beer garden will be back in the gazebo. A donation of $2 at the entrance with all monies going back to the Association.

What’s Happening on the South Shore Sunday July 7th

July 7 – 2nd Annual Blue Rocks Skips

Pleasant Paddling presents Blue Rocks Skips, the Nova Scotia Rock Skipping Championship. Head down to The Point at Blue Rocks, between 12pm – 4pm and take part in one, two or all three categories. $10 for three rocks, $20 for three rocks in each category, all proceeds go towards Pro Kids programs. There were over 43 participants at last year’s inaugural event, and over $600 raised for charity.

July 7 – Wild Weekend Hike “Coastal Discovery Walk

 The Harrison Lewis Coastal Discovery Centre presents educational guided nature hikes every second Sunday from July to mid-September. The first walk of the year takes place this Sunday starting at White Point Beach. Join them from 11am – 12:30pm and stroll the beach and trails taking in the gorgeous landscape all while learning about local flora and fauna and how we can help protect them. Sounds like a great way to spend some time this weekend.

July 7- Lunenburg Folk Harbour Society-Summer Concert Series- Heritage Bandstand, Lunenburg

This Summer Concert Series offers free weekly concerts on Sundays at 2pm at the Heritage Bandstand in Lunenburg. A great event to attend with friends and family!
