Another Summer weekend on the South Shore coming up with events for the food lover, music lover, nature lover; you name it, the South Shore probably has it! We thought we’d help you keep it all straight with some of what’s happening on the South Shore this weekend.

What’s Happening on the South Shore Friday, July 12, 2019

July 12 – The Port Grocer Pub Night

Start the weekend off on a high note at The Port Grocers Pub Night with Barb Gillis & Co. playing all the hits. Meet up with friends from 6pm – 10pm for great food, drinks and join in the fun. (p.s. if Deb’s Coconut Cream Pie is on the menu, do yourself a favour and order a slice)

July 12 – The Strange Valentines at The Trellis Cafe

Visit the Trellis Cafe in Hubbards for an intimate evening of dining and music with The Strange Valentines from 7:00pm – 9:00pm. He’s from Australia and she’s from the Maritimes, together they have been described as “if the Kinks jammed with Fleetwood Mac using only acoustic instruments in a folksy type backdrop”. Sounds like a lovely evening.

July 12 – Javier Estrada Gypsy Guitar at the Lunenburg Seaport

Having been mesmerized themselves, The Cosmic Hippie Boutique presents Javier Estrada an accomplished gypsy guitarist from San Miguel, Mexico. Join in at the Lunenburg Seaport starting at 7:00pm. The event is BYOB with a suggested donation of $20.

July 13 – 14 Lunenburg Craft & Food Festival

Head over to Lunenburg to attend the 44th Annual Craft & Food Festival. With over 130 vendors in two buildings, you are bound to find something that catches your eye. Stick around on Saturday for the Pop-Up Food Truck Rally from 5:00pm-7:00pm.

July 13 – Lobsterpalooza with Ben Caplan

2b theatre company presents Lobsterpalooza with Ben Caplan, from 3:00pm to sundown on Herman’s Island. Live music, fresh Clearwater lobster and local drinks as well as a silent and live auction. Tickets are $90 regular and $115 VIP. Purchase includes tax receipt of $60. Tickets can be purchased online or to purchase over the phone, call 902 453 6267 or email julia@2btheatre.com

July 13 – Farm & Forest Photography Day

Looking to spemd some time in the country? Bar M Ranch is hosting a free Farm & Forest Photography Day event where you can take great pictures on a working Angus beef farm. Perfect for professional and amateurs alike, a great chance to practice your skills and also enjoy the amazing views. Join them from 12pm – 4pm for guided tours of cattle, chickens, old buildings, forest trails and lots more is on deck.

July 13 – 20th Annual Sandcastle Competition – Rissers Beach

What's Happening on the South Shore

What’s a day at the beach without building a sandcastle. Help celebrate the 20th Annual Sandcastle Competition at Rissers Beach, maybe even join in! The event takes place from 10:00am – 2:00pm. Not only will there be sandy creations but also a variety of fun activities and games for the entire family!

July 13 – Gala 80 Chester Playhouse Fundraiser

On Saturday, July 13 from 6-9 pm think about attending Gala 80, a fund and friend raiser to benefit the Chester Playhouse. This year’s event will take place at the beautiful Captain’s House. Delicious food, generous libations, great music and many fun ways to show your support. Tickets are $150.00 and available through Vendini online.

July 14 – BioBlitz at Keli Seaside

What's Happening on the South Shore

iNaturalist is hosting their second annual BioBlitz at Kejimkujik Seasaide and you’re invited! Come and find as much wildlife as possible in a short period of time and experience this Biodiversity Hotspot in Atlantic Canada in a whole new way! Everyone is welcome to join in this exciting event. For more information or to reserve your spot call 902-682-2772. A fun part of what’s happening on the South Shore this weekend.

July 14 – An Organ Concert, John Laing

What's Happening on the South Shore

Musique Royale and St. John’s Anglican Church presents an organ concert by one of the most significant contributors to liturgical music in Canada, John Laing. Laing will perform works by Bach and Mendelssohn and original compositions. The concert begins at 3:00pm. Tickets are $20.90, available online.

July 14 – Movie Night at the Astor Theatre

Why not round out your weekend with a movie? The Astor Theatre presents “The Dead Won’t Die” – a modern day Zombie movie set in a sleepy little town. No advanced tickets sales, this is first come, first serve. Doors open 30 minutes before showtime, tickets are $10 at the door.
