What’s Happening on the South Shore this Weekend (August 2-4, 2019)

Hello August, the middle of Summer where so much has already been done, but yet, there is still so much left to do. The South Shore is teeming with activities this weekend, so roll on Summer! Here’s a list of some of What’s Happening on the South Shore August 2nd-4th.

August 2 – Finest Fridays at Boxing Rock

Boxing Rock Brewing Company brings back Finest Fridays! Join in from 5-7pm for live music, patio games, happy hour and more! Every Friday through to Aug 30th.

August 2 – CHANGEmakers Garden Weekend Kickoff Dinner ** POSTPONED UNTIL SEPTEMBER**

The Biscuit Eater Cafe and Bookstore with the Inner Light Kitchen start their Garden Workshop Series this weekend with with a hearty harvest dinner, crafted from freshly harvested food from the CHANGE community garden and other locally sourced ingredients. The cost $30 for three courses of plant-based goodness prepared by Inner Light Kitchen. Please RSVP by emailing garden@thebiscuiteater.com – please let them know if you would like to attend but the cost is a barrier.

August 2 – Hawk Dayze Scavenger Hunt

The Hawk Dayze Committee kicks offs Hawk Dayze with a Scavenger Hunt! Join them at “The Hawk Wharf” by 6:30pm to register. Teams can be made up of up to 4 players and children are welcome. The hunt begins at 7pm and goes until 8pm. No registration fee. However, donations will be accepted towards the cost of Hawk Dayze.

August 2 – Gone Crabbin’: Science Seaside Adventure

What's Happening on the South Shore

Looking for something just a little bit different? How about taking part in Gone Crabbin’, an exclusive maritime experience to help eradicate the invasive green crab. Organized by Kejimkujik Seaside, be prepared to get your hands wet and have fun as you row between stunning granite islands pulling traps from the water and handling fish and crabs alike. Cost is $60.65 per person, for ages 8+. Contact Keji for reservations.

August 2 – Trad Trio at St. Marks Place

St. Mark’s Place presents Trad Trio with members Heather Cameron, Rodger Leeder and Kenny Stewart for an evening of toe-tapping music steeped in Maritime tradition, fiddle tunes from Pictou County, Cape Breton and abroad, and songs both original and known. Tickets: $20.00 at the door.

August 2- Opening Night- Ingenuity Show

Here’s another wonderful reason to explore Port Medway!  Ingenuity is taking place at Seely Hall from August 2 to 13. The show will be open Monday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The opening of the show on August 2nd from 6pm to 8pm.  Seely Hall is on Port Medway Road close to the pier.

August 3- Greenfield Firefighters Breakfast

Enjoy a delicious breakfast at the Greenfield Fire Hall tomorrow morning from 7:30 to 10:30.

August 3- 30 Mile Yard Sale

August 3 & 4 – Mahone Bay Heritage Boatyard Weekend

The Mahone Bay Heritage Boatyard Co-op hosts the annual Heritage Boatyard Weekend. Demonstrations, walking tours, free kids activities, music, lobster ice cream, and much more. Take in the Maritime Masters Art Exhibit all weekend long. Stroll through town Saturday between 8am-1pm in search of treasures during the inaugural Neighbourhood Yardsale. Head down to the bay Sunday at 10am and cheer the 2-person Dory Races. There is something for everyone.

August 3 – 5th Annual RAFT UP Party

Mahone Marine and Indian Point Yacht Club invite you to join in the fun at the 5th annual RAFT UP Party. Bring your boat or find a boating friend and show up at North Side of Rous Island at between 4pm-8pm. With a few moorings in place, the idea is to tie up together, boat to boat, for a RAFT UP PARTY. There will also be live music and food! Event is weather permitting, please check the Facebook page the day of for updates.

August 3 – Riverport & District Lions Club Garden Party

Riverport & District Lions Club is hosting a Garden Party between 4pm-8pm. Canteen will be open, Live Music , Lions wagon , 50 / 50 , Games of Chance. Great entertainment for the whole family. Rain Date Aug 4th.

August 3 – Cherry Hill Fun Run

The 22nd annual Cherry Hill Fun Run will be held in Cherry Hill, Lunenburg County on Saturday August 3rd. The 10K route starts and ends at the United Communities Fire Hall. Registration for walkers and runners at 8:00 AM on race day, entrance fee is $25. Walkers start off at 9:30 AM, Runners at 10:00 AM. A shorter Beach and Back Run for kids 11 and under starts at 10:30 AM.

August 3 – Historic King St. Walking Tour

Due to popular demand, the Desbrisay Museum has added an additional King Street Walking Tour between 10am-11am. The meeting place for this tour will be in front of Towne Flowers (755 King St), please be there before 10am, a $5.00 donation suggested.

August 3- Music on the Riverbank- Mitchell Bailey

Music on the Riverbank is back and it’s better than ever! Join us for our eighth concert on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at beautiful Pijinuiskaq Park in Downtown Bridgewater, featuring the musical stylings of Mitchell Bailey. Music begins at 2:00 pm and admission is free. So come on out and enjoy this family-friendly event; you’re not going to want to miss it!

August 3 -Kejimkujik 50th Birthday Party

Head to the Jeremy’s Bay Campground to celebrate Keji’s 50th Birthday with an array of fun activities including a Bicycle Poker Rally, the Keji Birthday Noise Parade, complimentary cupcakes and lemonade, a group campfire, star-gazing and more! The party begins at 9am and goes to 3pm, campers and day visitors are invited to participate.

August 3 – Free EVent : Sea, Learn and Ride Electric Vehicles

Are you curious to know what an electric vehicle feels like to drive? Here is your chance to find out. St. Mark’s Place is hosting a Free EVent from Noon-4pm. Learn about Electric Vehicles & Autonomous Driving and how EV’s & Autonomous Vehicles will reshape how we think of buildings, road infrastructure, & city planning.

August 3 – Dance Party at Broad Cove Hall

The Broad Cove Community Association is having a Dance Party! Hit the dance floor with Steve Keith and The Bad Boys for a rocking good time Doors open at 8 p.m, $12.00 at the door. There will be a cash bar featuring a special cocktail. Proceeds of the bar go to BCCA. 

August 3 – Sticker Sensations!

What's Happening on the South Shore

Mahone Bay Art Space hosts Sticker Sensations! a “sticky” two-hour creative workshop for kids aged 4-12. A fun filled morning where they can draw, colour, stamp and collage their way to creating stickers and magnets! Taking place at the Mahone Bay Centre between 9:30am-11:30am, registration is $15 (fist child) $12 for subsequent kids registered at same time. Includes all materials. Email Sally Warren to register, space is limited.

August 4 – Bonny Lea Lobster Lovers Feast

This annual fundraiser for Bonny Lea Farm is not to be missed. The Lobster Lovers’ Feast has been held for more than 30 years. The event raises funds in support of their vocational, residential and enhanced programs for adults living with intellectual disabilities. Dine on 1¼ pound Clearwater lobster (hard shell), salads, dessert, and beverage. A limited number of 10oz AAA striploin steaks are available for the landlubbers. Take Out available between 3pm-6pm, Dine In between 4pm-6pm and enjoy live music making it feel like a true kitchen party! Tickets are $30, please purchase in advance.

August 3 – “I Remember the One Room School” – Ross Farm Musuem

Do you have a history buff in the family? This may be just what you are looking for. Visit Ross Farm Museum and learn about the “One Room Schoolhouse“, where students were not divided into rooms by grade level, they had to learn their lessons together. Now is your chance to have your turn to experience this one classroom setting. Step back in time and become a student again.

August 4 – Sundays with Shawn Hebb at King Street Beer Co.

Stop in at King Street Beer Co. and check out the patio while enjoying Sundays with Shawn Hebb, (and Larry Murphy on upright bass). Playing funk to blues, folk to rock, country to a little bit of Jazz; you are sure to be tapping you toes and singing along.

August 4 – Lunenburg Folk Art Festival

Looking for a place to lose yourself in whimsy and wonder? Visit the Nova Scotia Folk Art Festival this Sunday between Noon-4pm. The festival is a fund raising initiative of the Lunenburg Heritage Society. This juried event showcases the art of 50+ Nova Scotian folk artists working in wood, metal, fibre, paint, pencil and found items. Admission is $5 per person, children under 12 are free, tickets go on sale at 11am, doors open at Noon. All a part of what’s happening on the South Shore this weekend.

August 4 – Crib Tournament in New Ross

Forties Community Centre is hosting a Crib Tournament Sunday at 1pm. Doors open at Noon, registration starts 12:30pm, and play begins at 1pm. Entry is $ 20.00 a team, Canteen will be available.

August 4 – A Concert of Musick with The Roses

What's Happening on the South Shore

Gather at the Old Meeting House in Barrington for an afternoon listening to the melodies of The Roses played on historic musical instruments such as the hurdy gurdy, pennywhistle and cittern. Presented by the Barrington Museum Complex and Cape Sable Historical Society admission is by donation and helps to develop further programming opportunities.
