Prepare to pay $420 more on groceries in 2017 – Chatelaine

Canada’s Annual Food Price Report came out this week and I admit I was first interested by the fact that is was published this year by Dalhousie University. I’ve read a few different articles relating to this report and it appears that if you are someone who already buys most of your food local, from your local farmer or market, than this won’t affect you as much. This report deals specifically with grocery store prices.

The second suggestion in this article on how to prepare for this, is to do more meal planning, make grocery lists, etc. My Meal Plan Monday posts which have proven to be quite popular, will continue in the new year to help you see how you can eat real food each week without spending a lot of money. Looks like meal planning might become more important as 2017 rolls in.

Canada’s annual Food Price Report, published this year by Dalhousie University, estimates we’ll be paying three to five percent more on food in 2017—which, for the average family, works out to about $420 more. It’s a bigger jump than the typical one- to two-percent rate of inflation, and also higher than the sizeable 2.6 percent increase we saw last year.

Why not start the week with a purpose to brighten one persons day? It doesn’t take a lot of time, or money to make someone smile during this busy and often stressful month. People remember those little “things”, but more than that, they remember how it made them feel. This is a great list if you need some ideas.

Well, we probably can’t change it for everybody. But we can intentionally spread some holiday cheer this week and make it a little more wonderful for somebody. And if we can brighten one person’s day, maybe their smile can brighten one more.
