Sunday Morning Coffee

Sunday mornings I usually take some time to read stories I may not have time for through the week. I plan to share some of my favourite links here so that you might catch up on them as well with your Sunday morning coffee as well.

$1M donation to LaHave River cleanup is ‘legacy investment’ – Nova Scotia – CBC News

This is remarkable. An anonymous person has donated 1 million dollars towards the cleanup of the Lahave River. Kudos to the Lunenburg County Community Fund, which is where the donation came through and of course Stella Bowles, the 12-year-old girl who brought attention to this through her Facebook page and science project.

A Lunenburg County, N.S., resident has contributed $1 million toward the cleanup of the LaHave River, which receives 600,000 litres of raw or partially treated sewage daily, a community group announced Monday. The anonymous contribution was made through the Lunenburg County Community Fund, a private organization founded in 2010 that works to maintain and improve the quality of life in the South Shore.

My Family Survived 36 Hours Without Wi-Fi | Jen Lawrence

The title of this made me laugh…out loud! Our reliance on this “basic need” and the list of benefits that accompanied lack of wi-fi should come as no surprise. We are so wired in these days, it’s hard to disconnect…from the connection. Something to think about…

The other day, our Wi-Fi died and we were without Internet or television for 36 hours. Yes, that includes Netflix. I’m at the age where I really cannot see anything up close and only use my phone browser in an absolute pinch. And the kids do not have data plans. It was like we were in an episode of Survivor, only with a fully stocked kitchen and much better plumbing.
