Meal Planning Made Easy with Sam’s No Frills- October 20

October 20th…is that right??? What the heck! Wasn’t it just the first day of school last week? Our fall schedule is jammed this year…like seriously…booked. I think for a lot of families this is a busy season in life and the days and weeks often blur together. Fall marks the return to comfort foods, slow cooker dinners and a nice pot of soup simmering on the stove. That’s what I look forward to, and frankly what we need to survive. Good news…a little meal planning…and Sam’s No Frills...and I am feeling much calmer…and ready for another week! 🙂

One of the easiest ways to save money when planning out your meals is to try to select ingredients that can be used in 2-3 of your weekly meals. For example…when carrots are on sale, try to think of how you can use those in more than one dish. In this weeks meal plan, I am using carrots in a soup, a slow cooker meal and there will be a pot sliced and cooked as a side another night. This helps ensure you are using up your ingredients which will cut down on potential food waste and ultimately save you money. Woo Hoo! 🙂

Here’s what we’re having this week:

Chicken with Wine Stew, Mashed Potatoes and Peas

Vegetable Beef and Rice Soup

Slow Cooker Pork Chop Dinner

Baked Salmon, Baked Potatoes and Cooked Carrots

Here’s what I bought:

Campbell’s Cream of Mushroom Soup- $0.47
No Name Frozen Green Peas- $2.00
20 lbs White Potatoes- $3.97
PC White Mushrooms- $1.77
Garlic- $0.87
3 lbs Carrots- $1.47
3 lbs Onions- $1.47
Celery- $1.27
Red Pepper- $1.15
Smokehouse Bacon- $2.99
Chicken Thighs- ($2.57/lb) $7.68
Lean Ground Beef (2.97/lb) $7.00
Boneless Centre Pork Chops (3.97/lb) $6.27
2-High Liner Wild Pacific Salmon Fillets- (4.97/lb) $6.69

Total Spent: $45.07

By shopping the sales, selecting ingredients that work in multiple meals and shopping at Sam’s No Frills…I was able to plan our meals for next week for only $45.06! Chicken, salmon, pork and beef…easy to prepare, comforting meals…ready and waiting for you at the end of the day. Having my meal plan on the fridge, knowing I have all the ingredients I need…is making me feel ready for another week! The power of meal planning. Am I making you a believer? 😉

I did a Facebook Live after my shopping trip talking all about what I bought and this weeks meal plan…

Do you feel like you have struggle with food waste? Do you try to plan meals that use your ingredients more than once? I’d love any tips you use to save money…and time…when grocery shopping. Leave a comment and let me know!
