Meal Plan Monday- Fresh Cuts Market

Fresh Cuts Market in Bridgewater opened their doors just about three weeks ago and I can already see this will become a regular stop in my week. There was a lot of excitement to see what this new Market was going to look like, what they would sell, and of course, what would the prices be like? I think it’s fair to say, it does not disappoint and has given us another shopping destination here in Lunenburg County.

Fresh Cuts Market

The first thing I noted when I pulled in on their opening day, were their parking spaces. Nice, double-lined spots provide plenty of room and space in their parking area. Attention to details like that mean a lot. Entering the store for the first time I immediately noticed the clean, bright space. With it’s a minimal design and layout, this really makes their meat and produce stand out.

The next thing that is hard to miss at Fresh Cuts Market is their friendly staff. Good customer service is not a given anymore. So much so, that I really notice when I do receive good, friendly service. Fresh Cuts lists “friendly” in their slogan, has obviously put an emphasis on it and it shows!

Now…should we talk prices? Here in Lunenburg County we have a lot of people, especially seniors, who will drive to 3 different stores to get the best price each week. I think for a lot of them Fresh Cuts Market may now become their first stop. Each week so far, Fresh Cuts has advertised a few fantastic weekly specials on their Facebook page. This week they have red seedless grapes on for $0.99/lb, green peppers for $0.87/lb, boneless pork chops or roast for $1.87/lb and lean ground beef for $2.97.

Besides the meat and produce Fresh Cuts Market also sells some frozen items, has a dairy cooler with eggs, milk and butter and they also carry bread, buns, etc. You would have no problem coming up with a weekly meal plan after shopping there…which is what I did. 🙂

Here’s what we’re having this week:

Pork Sirloin Roast with Mashed Potatoes and Carrots

Sweet and Sour Meatballs, Rice and Peas

Roast Chicken, Baked Potato and Caesar Salad

Sweet Potato Soup with Lentils

Here’s what I bought:

Most of what I already had are basic pantry staples. Spices, potatoes, rice, broth, canned tomatoes, lentils, etc are things I try to keep on hand. Keeping a well stocked pantry gives you the ability to then stop in quickly to Fresh Cuts Market and have your meal plan for the week.

Fresh Cuts Market

With what I bought and what I had on hand…estimated at $10.00…this week’s meal plan cost me $37.92. OK…I’m an experienced meal planner…and I am impressed by this. 😉

I wanted to also mention what else I bought at Fresh Cuts that is not part of my meal plan:

2 green peppers- $0.54
Red seedless grapes- $3.14
Carvers Choice bacon- $1.99
Banana’s- $1.99 ($0.67/lb)

Fresh Cuts Market

In total I spent $35.56 and came out with an impressive amount of fresh food. Some of their prices are incredible! I love a little market like this one and in a town like ours it’s nice to have an alternative to the big box stores. I’ve been there three times so far and have had a great experience each time. With a meal plan, they make it even more possible for you to eat real food, on a budget. If you like fair prices and fast and friendly service, you have to check Fresh Cuts Market out!

Really great service. Helpful in pointing out deals etc…. Not impressed with the hamburger quality . It was very grey in the middle . But other then that everything was point on.

    • Thanks for the comment Liz. I’ve actually contacted Fresh Cuts Market with regards to this comment, and they have told me that the greying in the middle of fresh ground beef is a common occurrence because of the lack of exposure to oxygen. They always want to address customer concerns about quality, and encourage you to contact them at the store or through their Facebook page. Jennifer

  2. Glad to have the new store in town but was hoping for a bit better prices like compared too going to wolfville ‘s ( Cuts Store ) or into the city ( Chop’s ) .. Fresh Cuts does have great prices on Chicken Breasts , which our family buys a lot of….but we also like other meats but travel out of town to get a better deal…….so say it Fresh Cuts…..keep our family here in town…..and bring your prices down a little bit more

    • This week I bought Pork Sirloin for $1.87/lb and Ground Beef for $2.98/lb…not to mention some pretty incredible prices on produce. I’m very impressed so far with the prices. I haven’t been to the stores you mentioned Chris, but really pleased Bridgewater has a Market like this now. Save your gas money. 😉

I was especially impressed with their lean Hamburg. It was so lean I had to put a touch of oil in the pan before cooking. That is what I call lean. Excellent!!!
