Meal Plan Monday

OK…it’s September. Time to put the hot dogs and watermelon down…and get back in the kitchen and make some real meals. My meal planning during July and August is pretty light, so I’m usually feeling ready for a more balanced approach to meal time by the fall, and that means it’s time to get back to meal planning. If you’re new to the process, check out my post where I lay out how I approach it. There are many ways to tackle meal planning, but the savings, better eating and peace of mind, make it all worth it. So, on the first day of school, I grabbed that flyer, made my list, and came home with a plan for the week. Bring it September…I’m ready! 😉 It’s Meal Plan Monday!

Here’s what I’m making this week:

Roast Turkey, mashed potatoes and green beans (from my garden!)

Hot Turkey Sandwiches with green peas

Turkey Fried Rice

Sweet and Sour Meatballs, rice and peas

Saucy Shrimp and Feta Pasta

Here’s what I bought: from The Atlantic Superstore

blog-meal-plan-monday-september-12

Aylmer Italian diced tomatoes- $0.99
Catelli Smart Fettucinni- $1.99
Large bag of frozen green peas- $4.99
3 lb bag of carrots- $2.50
bag of yellow onions- $2.50
10 lb bag of potatoes- $2.50
Butterball Turkey- $20.06
Large pkg Lean Ground Beef- $10.07
1 bag Large White Shrimp- $6.99
bread crumbs- $1.99
feta cheese- $4.49

Total: $59.07

Here’s what I had:

butter
bread
brown sugar
flour
vinegar
soy sauce
ketchup
rice
sesame oil
green onions
2 eggs
garlic

A couple of notes: There is celery pictured as I will make turkey stock and possibly even Turkey Soup, which will provide at least 1 more meal, with leftovers. The ground beef is a large package and I will make a double batch of meatballs as well. One for this week and one for the freezer. So about $59.00 worth of groceries, plus I’ll guess about $10.00 worth of pantry staples comes out to around 7 meals for $69.00. Just under $10.00 a meal (which serves my family of 5) … real food…with real ingredients…made by you. Bring it September…we’re ready for ya! 😉
