Gow’s Home Hardware Recognizes “Giving Back” June 2017- Leslee Barry

The South Shore is known for their volunteer spirit. In communities all across this area there are hundreds of people giving back in some way each and every week and making a difference in people’s lives. They are fire-fighting, teaching, entertaining, raising money, driving, cooking, serving and more. Volunteerism is a vital part to building and maintaining our healthy communities and healthy lives. Once a month we feature someone on the South Shore who is volunteering their time in some way to make our community and lives stronger. Simple Local Life and Gow’s Home Hardware are proud to recognize this month’s “Giving Back” Recipient…Leslee Barry from Clearland.

Leslee Barry is a well know voice coach and piano teacher but spends a considerable amount of time each year leading community choral concerts in which she is the organizer, promoter and director, with proceeds from each concert going towards local area food banks.

Leslee has long recognized the importance of having a non-competitive opportunity for young singers, which the Tea and Biscuits Youth Choir provides. The Choir is in their 7th Season with singers from Bridgewater, Chester, Mahone Bay, Lunenburg and beyond all gathering each week for choir practice. Singing in a choir “melds people together” is how Leslee describes it and has enjoyed providing these concerts as a way to give back to the community.

Besides the Youth Choir, Leslee also leads a Mother/Daughter group who perform at an always popular Christmas concert each year, which provides another opportunity to provide support to the community at a time when help is often most needed.

This year’s Tea and Biscuits concert is scheduled for Saturday, June 10th at 7:30pm at St.John’s Lutheran Church. Tickets are available at Kinburn Pharmasave in Mahone Bay and Shop on the Corner in Lunenburg. Adults are $15.00 Students, $10.00 and children under 12 are admitted free.

Thank you Leslee for all you do and for giving back to your community! 🙂

Founded in 1848, Gow’s has been serving the residents of Bridgewater as one of the oldest established businesses in the community. Gow’s Home Hardware is the proud sponsor of the “Giving Back” profile.
