Fresh Cuts Friday- May 26 2017

Wow…May is really flying by, and even though we are still experiencing some cool and wet spring days, I have already shifted my meal planning and use my barbecue more often than not. I’m not typically someone who barbecues all year, so I like to take advantage of cooking outside over an open flame when the weather is nicer and I can enjoy preparing our food this way. Yum! 🙂 Welcome to Fresh Cuts Friday.

Barbecuing makes meal planning even easier in my mind. Decide on your main ingredient…beef, pork, chicken, fish, etc… and then just make a salad, cut up veggies or roast some potatoes and dinner is ready! Fresh Cuts Market makes shopping during these seasons even easier carrying everything you need to fire up the barbecue and get dinner on the table. I am still so impressed every time I am in, over their prices and selection. They are even carrying some fresh herbs now! Exciting. 🙂

Here’s what we’re having this week:

BLT’s with sliced Cucumbers and Carrots

Barbecued Chicken, Roasted Potatoes and Yellow Beans

Barbecued Sausages and Potato Salad

Slow Cooker Pork Chop Dinner

Sirloin Roast, Mashed Potatoes and Cauliflower

Here’s what I bought:

Cucumber- $0.97
Ben’s Whole Wheat Bread- $2.47
Ben’s Hot Dog Buns- $2.27
2 lbs Onions- $0.87
2 lbs Carrots- $1.97
Garlic- $0.69
Yellow Beans- $1.13
10 lbs Potatoes- $3.77
Eye of Round Roast- ($3.97) $8.91
Chicken Pieces- ($1.37lb) $5.39
Boneless Sirloin Pork Chops- ($2.77/lb) $4.85
Maple Wood Smoked Bacon- $3.77
Cauliflower- $1.77
Iceburg Lettuce- $0.87
2 Schneiders Sausages- ($1.47)-$2.94
Vine Tomatoes- $1.30

Total Spent- $43.94

Some phenomenal prices this week on the chicken pieces, pork chops, and eye of round roast combined with some fresh produce and I have 5 meals planned for our family of 5, with most of the ingredients needed for around $45.00. Wow!

If you are looking to save some money or trim money from your budget, your food expenses is one variable that you can control. Making a meal plan and shopping with a prepared list will go a long way to saving you money each month!

Even better is that Fresh Cuts Market also saves you time. Their store layout with everything within reach with one quick trip around is perfect for those with busy schedules. A shout out as well to their friendly staff who are always so helpful every time I am in. 🙂 I am so happy to have Fresh Cuts Market as an option now for this spring and summer when I just want to run in grab what I need for the week, usually for under $50.00.

Do you meal plan this time of year? Are you doing a lot of barbecuing yet? Let me know in the comments. 🙂

I would BBQ everyday if I had one. I do have a little grill that helps fill the void which is almost constantly in use with some sort of meat and veggie cabob, marinated steak, or other experiment. 🙂
Looking forward to all the future BBQ meal plan recipes!

    • A little grill sounds like a great option when you don;t have a barbecue to use. I’m hoping to have some barbecue meals to share this summer. 🙂

  2. Have fun with bbqing. I did it every night this last week and it gave my daughters so much outside play time and was simply great. They would eat all of their dinner, run back outside to eat smores and then go to sleep. It was peaceful family time.
