Eggnog Latte Recipe

If I’m going to treat myself to a fancy latte over the Holidays, I typically go for an eggnog latte. I love eggnog and there’s something about the limited availability that keeps it sort of special.  I know I could make my own anytime…but to me eggnog is seasonal.  Who isn’t excited when eggnog finally reappears in the grocery store…mind you it’s usually right around Halloween…but still.

Shop on the Corner in Lunenburg and The Barn in Mahone Bay both serve some amazing eggnog lattes.  However, if you’re not out and about, it is possible…and easy… to make your own eggnog latte at home.  So quick and simple you can make one some afternoon in December when you are wrapping gifts, or it’s a perfect way to use up any leftover eggnog you still have in your fridge in January.

Eggnog Latte
Cuisine: Beverage
Prep time:
Cook time:
Total time:
Serves: 1 serving

Ingredients
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • ⅓ Cup milk
  • ⅔ Cup eggnog
  • ½ Cup extra strong coffee (I double up the coffee grounds to my normal measure) or 2 shots of espresso
  • pinch of ground nutmeg
Instructions
  1. Pour the milk, eggnog and sugar into a mason jar (with lid) or large cup
  2. Using a stick blender or your hands, shake/mix the milk mixture for 30-45 seconds
  3. Keep shaking until the mixture appears to have doubled in size due to the air bubbles
  4. Remove the cover, if using the jar, and microwave for 30-45 seconds, or until the mixture starts to bubble to the near to the top of the jar
  5. Repeat the shaking and heating steps one more time until the milk is frothy
  6. Pour the hot coffee in the bottom of a deep mug, filling it half way
  7. Holding back the milk foam with a spoon, slowly pour the milk mixture into the coffee
  8. Do not stir
  9. Gently spoon the foam on top
  10. Sprinkle with fresh grated nutmeg if you have any, or use ground nutmeg

You can easily make your own eggnog latte at home using a Stick Blender
or just a Mason Jar. I’ve tried both methods and I actually prefer a mason jar. It just seems easier than getting out my stick blender and I seem to always have a mason jar on the counter waiting to be used.

The cost of making your own latte’s at home is significantly less than buying and these are so easy to make and feel like a real treat on a cold, winter’s day. Snuggle up…and enjoy.

Hey Jen, have you tried the eggnog spice from epicure?? Delish and would be a great sprinkle on your latte. It is a seasonal product so may not be available right now.
